Today, I was working as a nurse, and an elderly man had just passed away. As the patient's wife was leaving she said, "Thank you for taking such good care of my husband." Then I, intending to say "Sorry for your loss," said "Thank you for your loss." FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I attended an elderly man's funeral. As I approached the casket his wife said, "Thank you for coming." I replied with, "No, thank you." FML
Today, a man I once worked with passed away. He was a lovely, caring, and inspirational person whom I looked up to. My husband's form of consolation? "Old people die. Get over it." FML
Good
Today, at work, I asked a lady how she was doing. When she replied, I didn't understand her, and instead of asking her what she'd said, I just replied with, "Oh, that's good." What she'd said that I didn't understand was that her husband had just died. FML
Confusion
Today, while at work, I asked an older customer how he was doing. He told me that he'd just lost his wife. I gave my condolences before he clarified that his wife was not dead, but was lost in Walmart. FML
Brain freeze
Today, I work at a hospice center. At 3AM, a call just went out to a man's family to come because he was dying. I didn't realize that this man was my old friend's grandpa. When I saw her, I smiled really big and said, "Hey! Great to see you!" Her grandpa was ACTIVELY DYING. Stupid stupid stupid. FML
Today, my friend had to leave work early for a funeral. As he was on his way out, I wanted to say something. All I could think of was, "Have fun!" FML
RIP
Today, I told someone “You too” when they'd said “Sorry for your loss” after I'd mentioned that I recently lost my dog to cancer. I realized what I'd said immediately and tried to fix it by talking more, which somehow made it worse. FML
Heartless
Today, I lost my job. Why? Because I'm taking care of my dying mother. My boss actually said, "Well, if she dies today, we can hold your job." FML
Today, the really hot guy that works in the same building as me came to work after being away for the past two days. I said, "Look who finally decided to come to work!" His response was, "I had a death in the family, thanks." FML
Condolences
Today, I went to the funeral of my friend's brother. It was the first funeral I'd gone to, and I was really nervous. When the service finished, everyone went to pay their respects to the family. After I paid mine, they said, "Thank you for coming." I instictively replied, "My pleasure." FML

It's even worse for me. I tried saying, while babysitting, "I'll also put your son to sleep" and was thinking to myself, "I'll do the dishes as well" and ended up saying "I'll do your son to sleep"

Ehh you just jumped ahead of yourself... once I said "My wife's hair is red" forgot to put *cousin's* in there. I don't talk much so everyone there blew that loudly outta proportion in our busy store.. not as bad but still everyone does it :)

Meh, easy fix. Shit happens. You'll be fine.

Depending on the wife she would have either freaked the **** out or said, 'Do you mean, sorry for my loss?' If she was really a nice person, which most people are, she would understand it was just a simple mistake.

Don't worry OP, it happens to everyone. I bagged groceries when I was a teenager. I once told a homosexual couple to "Have a nice gay" instead of "have a nice day". Wanted to crawl under a rock.

She probably didn't even notice the slip. I am sure she was even more on automatic pilot and out of sync than you, having just lost her husband. And death situations are notorious for that. Someone at a funeral describing embarrassment as I almost died. You read that stuff all the time.

Did you stare into her eyes as you said it and walk out of the room like a boss?
