Today, I had an appointment with my dentist to check for cavities. He told me that most of my teeth have cavities, and that I may need a root canal. In fact, I ended up actually getting a painful root canal. FML
Today, after two root canal procedures done on the same tooth in last two years, the tooth had been acting up for a few days, so I went in to get it checked. Turns out, it got infected AGAIN and I gotta get a THIRD root canal done on the same tooth. FML
Today, I got a root canal. It wouldn't have been that bad if the dentist hadn't performed it on the wrong tooth. FML
Today, after waking up from a bad migraine which caused my teeth to clench, I found out that I broke a molar. A dentist told me it split down to the bone, so I need root canal and an extended crown. Then they told me the tooth below had also broke and has to be pulled. FML
Today, I went to my new dentist and before he started looking at my teeth, I told him my previous dentist had never found a single thing wrong with my teeth. After looking around, he chuckled humourlessly and called my last dentist idiotic. I now have a $580 bill and a root canal next week. FML
Today, it was the fourth time I've had major dental work done, because my dentist messed up my root canal. After almost a dozen needles, three missed work days, over $1,000, and 2 broken tools, I only have a tiny, barely-successful filling to show for it. FML
Today, at the dentist, I was just supposed to get three small cavities filled. I walked out with a referral slip for the endodontist. Hello, root canal. Fuck you, genetics. FML
Today, I went to the dentist to have two cavities filled. I hate going to the dentist. After he'd started drilling, I heard a "clunk" noise followed by an "Oops." My dentist had cut my tooth in half. Now I have to get surgery to have the tooth extracted. FML
Today, I went to a new dentist because I've been experiencing occasional toothache. Upon seeing my x-rays, he noticed something odd. Apparently, during a root canal a while ago, a piece of an instrument broke off, and has been lodged within ever since. FML
Today, I went to the dentist after 24 hours of severe tooth pain. They did an emergency root canal. After the anesthesia wore off, within minutes, the pain returned only worse than before. Called the dentist, I had to return, only to find they had done the root canal on the wrong tooth. FML

My mom told me a dentist horror story. Apparently he would claim her brothers had a cavity and then literally DRILL one in their tooth and proceed to fill it and charge them. He finally got arrested, apparently he was a wanted con artist haha.

When I was a little kid, the dentist we went to would always say my teeth looked great with no problems, well, when we changed dentists, it turned out that I had 4 back teeth that were rotten, and I had to have them pulled out!

no idea why, but reading this sent a shiver done my spine. im sorry, OP. dentists sucked. BUT at least youll get the laughing gas (or knock out stuff) and its always fun when you wake up? try and look on the bright side!! :)

I find it crazy that most Americans seem to have "laughing gas" with their dental treatment-here we do it in the dental hospital and out in practice it's only dentists who've done a special course that can give it and only for selective cases- extreme fear etc

Yeah, we just get an injection straight to the gums :/ it numbs whichever part of the mouth we need surgery on. We're very much wide awake the whole time. I'd like to be knocked out though!

I don't even have an injection at the dentist. I had one for when I had teeth taken out for my braces and it hadnt kicked in within the 20 seconds my dentist started yanking out my teeth. Wasn't too bad, I've felt worse.

Most American dentists don't use anything other than a local anaesthetic for root canals unless the patient demands, and is willing to pay for, more. It's a fairly routine procedure.

The only procedure I think you get knocked out completely for is when you get your wisdom teeth pulled, other than that they just numb your gums with a needle.

I'm sure none of the responsibility for having bad teeth was your own fault. Try brushing with toothpaste and using some sort of mouth was might help what teeth you have left.

Some teeth decay from being forced into each other. That's why I HAVE to get my wisdom teeth out. It's not always about bad hygiene.

Yeah, a LOT of people go straight to suing, but on this case I think the dentist deserves to be sued. I'd hate to have a dentist that messed up, charged for it, and then caused me to go get something else done to fix it.
