Today, I was sick, so I went into work to see if I could get my shift covered, instead of just calling in. I ended up working an extra hour. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was sick, so I emailed my co-workers with a list of my hours, asking if anyone would be willing to cover them for me. I only got one hour covered, and that was during a day I don't even work. FML
Today, I covered a 10-hour shift for a sick coworker. Glad to earn some extra money for the holidays, I went to clock out. I hadn't even clocked in when I first got there at 7 am. FML
Today, I went into work early so I could get my work all done and leave on time, rather than staying back. The later shift starters had other ideas and called in sick. FML
Today, after I've been sick all week, but still coming in to work (I'm not contagious) because I know that we're short staffed, I sucked it up and came in again, only to find out 3 other employees called in because they're hungover. Now I have to do my job and theirs. FML
Today, I had to work a double shift after my relief called in "sick" just so he could go to a party. FML
Risky business
Today, I called in sick to my job. I'm already on shaky ground there, but I was honestly sick. I happened to call in during the mandatory departmental meeting. Apparently, I was supposed to go in a half-hour early. I called in thirty minutes late, during a required meeting. FML
Today, I got called into work on my day off. I ended up being written up for being 15 minutes late to a shift I didn't even have. FML
Karma
Today, I decided I would call in sick to work after working 60 hours the week before just so I could have a day off. My body responded this morning with vomiting and diarrhea, so I had to call in sick and didn't get to have much fun. Karma 1 - Me 0. FML
Today, a co-worker called in sick due to a family emergency. I ended up working an unplanned 12-hour overnight shift. After I clocked out, I dragged myself out to the parking lot to go home. Someone had smeared tacos all over my car. FML
Today, after working 12 shifts in the past 8 days at 2 jobs and thinking today was a day off, I got the call that I misread my schedule and I was in fact scheduled. Got off at 2:30 am, work again at 9 am with 9 shifts to go this week. FML

No offense, but if your boss/employer sees you come into the store to report you are too sick to come in and work, you are ******.

Isn't that a health violation for employees to work when they are sick, especially when working with food?
mariri9206 32
Where did it say they're a food employee? Also, if it's, like, the flu, a lot of food employees still go into work because they only get paid half of minimum wage and, basically, live on their tips and they can't afford to miss out on those. If you're a food employee and have thrown up or had diarrhea multiple times in the past couple of days, you can't come to work without having shown no symptoms for, at least, 2 or 3 days and you need a clean bill of health from a doctor and I think that's what you're thinking off.

I was just assuming since he said he picked up an extra hour shift

Regardless of whether it was a food service job, you are putting your coworkers at risk by coming into work sick.
PrincessZelda_HR 22
There are countless other jobs where people work in shifts that people could end up with an extra hour that also don't involve food; retail, for example.

that's how you increase your potential

Atleast you got paid and saved a sick day!

Good on you for having the decency to try and arrange cover but people that are too nice tend to get walked over in life

Its a little ironic and, frankly, idiotic that you would go into work, only to say that you cant come in. It sucks that you're sick OP, but I'd say YDI.
