Today, I swapped out my maternity gown for a regular old t-shirt. My visiting mother-in-law called me a fatass and said I need to lose weight. I'd given birth just 40 hours earlier. FML

It was really offensive for her to say something like that. My mom and grandfather and boyfriend were in the room too, which made it even more humiliating. I didn't know what to say, I was in shock. My boyfriend led her out of the room, so the visit ended right then and there. I haven't seen or spoken to her since, and she hasn't seen her grand child either. I'm still working on an awesome comeback speech, I'm open to suggestions!

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.

That's a little insensitive to you. Should have told her, " I just had a kid, what's your excuse ?".

I suggest just flat out ignore her. You don't need your child growing up around people like that. She will realize sooner or later that you control when she sees her grandchild and she'll regret being so nasty to you. Congrats on the baby though!

I couldn't even stand by myself 40 hours after I gave birth, does she expect you to go jogging and magically shed pounds in a matter of days?

Even with jogging you can't lose a ton of weight in a few days (maybe like 5 pounds)

Hence the need for magic

An anagram for "mother in law" is "woman hitler" I think.

Do us all a favor and stop thinking

....They're right though. not in the snese that the in law becomes a woman version of hitler. But if you mix the words around it does make woman hitler. Though I would say the mother in law is hitler. Not all in laws are so aweful. Sorry op that she is such a bitch. But if I were you; after weeks maybe even months (cause you have to take care of your child, and recover) I would get into shape and stick it in her face. That you have a baby and you are more fit than her! (Assuming the mother in law is not into extreme sports...)

She wasn't commenting on your recently deflated belly, she commented on the size of your ass. Could it be that particular part of your anatomy is a little plump and she is just being honest?

I moderated this one, and in the original telling, she was, indeed commenting on OP's stomach.

Does she hate you? Apparently she has no understanding of pregnancy....or manners
False_Stupidity 42
Which in itself is a worry since she presumably gave birth to the OP's husband.

Maybe not her specifically…

Tell her because of that comment she's lost baby visiting privileges. Anyway, congrats on the baby!

That's just insensitive, does she not realise other people have feelings?

Your husband should have a word with her about her insensitivity and lack of respect. If she can't be respectful of you she has no right to be in your house at this time. You need to be thinking only of resting and bonding with your new baby

#25 that may not even work. In my case my husband told his mother the way that she treated myself and my children like complete garbage was unacceptable and absolutely uncalled for she told him, "Remember I'M your mother." and continued being a complete bitch. When he finally had enough and quit talking to her for a few months she called him up one day and bitched him out never even apologizing for what she had done. --- Some people are so inconsiderate, disrespectful and rude a slap in their face wouldn't fix them.

Are you sure we aren't inlaws? I think we have the same mother in law.
feven 32
Wow it's like all mother-in-laws are made to be assholes.
