Today, I showed up on set for a film that I booked a role in weeks ago. At the time of the audition, the script was being rewritten, so today I was so excited and eager to be told what my role would entail. When they handed me the script, my character was described as a fat, ugly, awkward girl. FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I auditioned for a part and made it because the director thought I would be "perfect" for the part and I was "just like the character in every way." The part is for a schizophrenic drug addict who everyone hates and is stabbed to death in the second scene. FML
Casting call out
Today, I was trying out for a play I really wanted to be in. After my audition, I was feeling really good. She said she would post the cast list tomorrow. Not knowing where she would post it, I asked her. Her reply? "It doesn't matter. You won't be on it anyway." FML
Today, I was sent the script to a play I'm participating in at school. After reading it a couple of times, I noticed that my part has been forgotten completely. FML
Pure entertainment
Today, I auditioned for a part in a play. I've been practicing for months, and was very excited. After I'd finished singing, the director whispered something to the other judges, and they all laughed. Hard. So much for the lead role. FML
Today, I went to an audition for a play. The casting director thanked me for my time, but told me they would pass because I had "the emotional range of a turnip." FML
Typecasting
Today, I got my first acting part. I played the role of a bad boy who has to grab the leading lady's ass, who then slaps me in the face. The ass grab was done in one take. The slap required 14 takes. FML
You better shape up
Today, I auditioned for the role of Rizzo in a local production of Grease. The director told me I wasn't tough enough, and that my persona too sweet and childlike for the part. I asked if I should instead try out to play Sandy. He replied, "I was being nice. Honestly, you're ugly and can't act." FML
Today, the director of the play I'm in decided to explain why we got the parts we did. He said he tried matching our characters to who we actually are. I play a whore who's a transvestite. FML
Today, it was the first dress rehearsal at a community theater. I'm playing a grandma to a bunch of little kids, and the guy who is playing the grandpa wears a fat suit. I put on my costume and one of the kids comes up to me and says, "Are you wearing a fat suit too?" and pokes my stomach. FML
Method acting
Today, I had a completely improvised audition for the school play. The director called me and one of the cutest guys auditioning to improvise an intimate scene. Knowing that I'm a complete klutz, I wasn't all that surprised when I tripped over my feet and landed with my face in his crotch. He was. FML

So based on what I'm reading, you're admitting that you fit the role perfectly with little to no makeup?

So what? At least you have a job. Stop whining and get on with it!

YDI. Clay Aiken would have roundhoused the director and given you the role of the hot blonde who chews bubblegum.

The OP would have no competition from Clay Aiken for that role. Clay is thin and beautiful and everything he does is graceful. If Clay Aiken were to stumble and fall, then stumbling and falling would be the new graceful and walking upright would be the new awkward and clumsy. Of course, if Clay set his mind to play ugly, fat and awkward, he'd do it so well he'd win an Oscar and an Emmy even if it were just a stage production. They'd even invent a Nobel Prize for Acting, give it to Clay Aiken, and then cancel the award for the future (only if Clay says that's OK.) I'm sure we can all agree -- whether we are Clay Aiken fans or pure evil -- that he could play the part of a girl anytime! ;)

ColdGold is right. If you can't play somebody else, you can't be an actress. Acting is not about showing off how HAWT!!!!1!~1!! you are. Me? I would actually find it quite funny to play a fat, ugly, awkward guy. :-)

Maybe you fit the description.

Yeah, right. It's called an acting job. If you don't want to put up with the bad ones, then perhaps this isn't the right career for you. Try again.

As an actress, and as someone who dates an actor and has many friends in the theatrical community, I'm going to point out to you how lucky you are to have any work at all. Acting is subjective. Sometimes you get lots of work, sometimes you don't. Auditions are a numbers game - you audition for everything, sometimes you get parts, sometimes you don't. You got a part. And yes, they do take appearance into consideration when casting, but for small indie flicks, it's usually more talent based. They cast you, thus you must be talented.

Or, perhaps you are just big, fat, and ugly.

Yeah, but I can only read so much of "I was just going to pray when a suicide bomb blew off my arm and both legs, the best part? He was my only son abducted and drugged by the taliban FML." Yeah, no thanks, I'd just cry. I'd rather read stories from the OP: "Today I discovered I can make a career out of my fatness, ugliness and social anxiety, FML" HAHAHAHA sucks to be the OP; I feel great. Fat ugly people, HAHA!
