Today, I received yet another rejection letter from a college I'd applied to. After crying for a week about how lousy I felt, my older sister gave me all 6 of the acceptance letters she'd been hiding. Turns out she's been forging rejection letters and keeping the real ones in her room. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I received a rejection letter from a college that I'd applied to 6 years ago. FML
Today, I got 3 different rejection letters mailed to me from the same college. FML
Today, I got a large envelope from a college I applied to earlier. My mom, expecting big news, made my family gather round as I opened it. It ended up being a letter of rejection from not just that school, but all three campuses of the state college. FML
Can't afford this shit
Today, I was cleaning my father's study room and wondering why I did not receive my acceptance/rejection letter from a college I really wanted. I found the acceptance letter, on his desk, also approving of a full scholarship. The deadline to confirm was a month ago. FML
Today, I was accepted to the college of my dreams. Then I checked the address. Turns out, the letter was meant for my neighbor. I was actually denied. FML
Today, I received another letter of rejection from the university of my dreams. I got it the first time, but thanks for reminding me. FML
Today, I borrowed my dad's laptop to type an essay. While I was saving it, I noticed some curious looking files and I opened them. They were rejection letters from all the colleges I had applied to. My dad had been forging them so he wouldn't have to pay for my tuition bills. FML
Today, I received a series of rejection letters from jobs, one after the other. Last night, I stayed up into the wee morning hours to apply to campus jobs I'm not qualified for, because I was classified as a part-time student due to an administrative error. FML
Today, despite having glowing recommendations, stellar grades, and an impressive resumé, I was rejected by all 15 colleges that I applied to. No explanation or reasons have been given, and it's too late to apply to any more. FML
Today, I was walking with a friend to tell him how excited I was for college and even motivating him to apply for the same school, until I found out later that I got rejected. FML

I get the whole sibling rivalry thing, but your sister is a bitch.

When it's that time of the month for her, hide all of the pads and tampons in the house. She's gonna bloody regret messing with you :)

Your sister is straight up evil! On a positive note, congratulation on being accepted 6 different colleges...you're defenitely going places!

I would slap her silly then laugh about it after a few shots

Time to beat her.

haha that is funny. im sure your sister only meant it as a joke, after all she forged the rejection letters which implies that she was always going to give them back. relax she was just trying to get a reaction from you
JayBunny 16
Its not funny when her/his future is on the line.
R3TROxLOV3 32
No it doesn't. Forging the letters implies that she legitimately wanted the OP to think that s/he was rejected from the colleges s/he applied to. It was an incredibly ****** up thing to do, and in no way funny. Quite frankly, anyone who thinks that this is funny is an idiot. You don't **** with people's futures or their emotional well being for giggles.
gracehi 33
But she DID give OP the letters in the end, when s/he started to cry. That could mean that it started out as a prank in very poor taste, and seeing her sibling cry is what made her realize the joke had gone too far. Siblings **** with each other. That's what they do. The ******* with each other just usually isn't this cruel.
buhsephina 1
Actually, it said she gave them back after the OP wept and felt like a worthless loser for a full week. That's a long time to string someone along for any joke, let alone one where you're watching your sibling crumble into an emotional wreck :(
gracehi 33
That's assuming the sister KNEW OP had been crying. I know when I cry, I do it in private and do my best not to let anybody know. If OP is the same way, his/her sister might not have known.

I really hope you got the acceptance letters before it was too late to accept the offers!! Seriously though this is the kind of thing that you might think could be funny, then realise in practice it would just be mean, and don't do it. Mean sister :/
keverdeen 14
Yeah I know the national deadline for accepting your offer is May 1st so hopefully OP still has a chance!
gracehi 33
I believe you have a year to attend a college to which you've been accepted. So OP may have missed the cut off for attending the fall semester, but s/he could still enroll in the winter semester. Things will be delayed, but not totally screwed.
Bloink 25
I thought you had to commit to a college by now?

That's what I thought too. I think most use the May 1st deadline.

"She's a bitch", "jelaousy". What the hell people? Yeah, that would be the case if the sis destroyed the acceptance letters(or gave them to you after you had to respond or something like that), but this just looks like an evil prank. And by evil, I mean I-would-do-this-to-my-best-friend-evil. OP should just laugh about it, and of course forge a plan to get her back.
R3TROxLOV3 32
People are only saying it because it's true. For some colleges, you would have needed to accept or reject the offer by now. OP's sister maliciously ****** with the OP, and it's in no way funny. A prank is putting hair dye in someone's shampoo, or replacing salt with sugar. It's not potentially ******* up someone's future because you're a vindictive cow. Also, I would hate to be your friend if you think that this type of thing is funny. I would NEVER mess with my friends when it comes to something that can determine what happens in their future.
limabeans101029 21
I definitely agree with 35. This is something that will actually have an impact on OP's future. Plus, it's obvious that it made OP feel terrible. I have no idea why you would want to inflict that on someone, let alone your own sister or friend. Yes it may have been a "prank" but it was a pretty crap one.

Please interpret my comment before replying. Let me explain slowly (please read slowly): If the sis gave the letters to OP after she (or he, but I would guess OP's a girl) had to reply to the colleges, then it's not acceptable, she's a bitch, and no, I would not do that to any of my friends. But we don't know if that's the case. Do we know what colleges did OP apply for? Nope, there could be still time to accept the offers. It would be best if OP would clarify things.
R3TROxLOV3 32
The point is that it was a malicious thing for the sister to do. What kind of person not only steals someone else's mail, but then continues on to forge a new letter to give to the original recipient? Either way, it's not a funny prank. It's a very cruel, very vindictive thing to do. You don't seem to be understanding that.

If you don't have a strong enough relationship with the prankster, then it's true. My opinion may be unpopular, but if they're close to each other, it can be an understandable prank (well, it's a one time opportunity). The dose up sudden happiness for the acceptance letters could make up for the sadness over the forged denials. Like waking up from a bad dream. If someone whom I love did this to me I would be mad at first, but I would laugh it off later. But just for assuring you again, I only think this if there's no real harm done. If the letters would be overdue when I got them, I would beat the crap out of that asshat.

I meant "dose of", of course, but for some reason I can't edit my comment now.

Even if the sister gave the OP the letters before the deadline, she still kept them and watched OP crying and in serious distress for a week. That is a sick thing to do and she should be ashamed of herself. I could understand the joke if she hadn't realised how upset her brother/sister was, but she let this drag out for a week. In short, she's a bitch.
liffagain 16
and she didn't just hide one letter. she hid six! one letter i would understand as a prank if she gave it back soon enough. but six? really
acerredrum 23
Wait, you mean you would watch your friend cry for a week, be obviously distraught and think that is a good prank for your best friend? Dude, if your prank makes someone CRY then that is when you realize, "Oops, I ****** up." then apologize, a lot. You don't let them continue crying for a week and then go, "Lol I was jk the whooooole time."
LifeAlertTwerk 14
If they were letters in the mail, she technically committed a federal crime by opening your mail. Perhaps pay back in the form of a prank is in order.
