Today, I had to re-grade a student's assignments because neither he, nor his parents can read "Spanish." I'd written in cursive. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, in the class I'm teaching, I assigned my students an essay to complete for homework. One student asked me if I was deducting points for bad spelling. I teach English. FML
Hey! Teachers! Leave those kids alone!
Today, while grading my kindergarteners' spelling tests, one kid spelled all the words wrong, including his name. FML
Despair
Today, I'm grading final projects for a junior level college class. A student finally turned in their work, after months of encouragement and coaxing. Half of it was plain wrong, the rest had so many spelling and grammatical mistakes, it appeared to be written by a drunk autocorrect program. FML
Underfunded and underappreciated
Today, I got back the essay I wrote about how my country's education system is fucked. At one point, I made a spelling mistake. My teacher wrote a note about it, basically calling me illiterate, and telling me to pay attention in school instead of whining about it. She misspelled "school". FML
Today, I had to make a poster for social studies. I decided to write "Nice ass" in hieroglyphics. Turns out my teacher can read hieroglyphics. FML
Slipping up
Today, I was teaching a class when a student pointed out that I'd used the wrong "your/you're" while writing on the board. FML
My bad
Today, I’m a middle-school teacher. Handing back graded essays, only to realize halfway through that I’d left my personal notes visible on the projector. One said, “Great kid, but talks like a podcast on 1.5x speed.” The student read it out loud before I could close the tab. FML
Cursed cursive
Today, I realized I am one of those people who has trouble reading their own handwriting. It looks like someone trying to write in cursive when they don't even have the slightest idea what cursive writing even is. I do know what it is. I'm just very, very rusty. FML
Today, my ten-year-old sister had to write out my job application because no one can read my terrible handwriting. FML
Feedback
Today, the feedback my teacher wrote on my English assignment was so horrible that it took me half an hour and help from both my parents to decipher it. It turned out to be a scathing criticism of my "poor communication skills". I hate my teachers. FML

My kids only had one quarter of cursive writing in school. It simply is not taught much anymore. Kind of like Latin is a dead language, cursive is going away.

When I was in elementary school, I only remember learning it for one week. I actually wish we spent more time on it.

Cursive is obsolete.

If you tell them it's cursive they'll probably get mad for teaching their kids to swear

WOW, there's not much to say about that. And people wonder why our country is in the shape it's in.

Wow, the fact that he parents couldn't understand what you wrote and that they thought it was in Spanish is astounding. It makes it hard for the teacher, having to spend time re-grading after so much time has already been spent. However I can also understand where the student is coming from. I had a university prof, who would grade papers in cursive. It was neat and not all over the place but it was very tiny and the letters weren't easily distinguishable. It was often a challenge trying to decipher what was written. Sometimes, if you asked her what she wrote she couldn't even decipher her own cursive.

I write cursive for everything because it's much quicker and I've been told it almost looks like script. That makes me sad if people are no longer able to read it... Oooh! We can have a secret coded language!!

The fact they thought it was Spanish is amusing, but there are seriously too many teachers whose handwriting is awful. I've had so many profs write comments and I literally couldn't understand any of the feedback. It's extremely annoying.
