Today, I got back from a 3 and a half week trip to South Africa to do volunteer work with children in townships. My parents forgot to pick me up, and I had to sit there by myself and wait for them, while 80 people of the same organization got loving hugs from their proud parents. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Well planned out
Today, after 6 months abroad, I finally got home to the airport at 5 a.m. where my parents were supposed to be picking me up. I called my mother to let her know I'd landed. She picked up with a sleepy voice and asked, "Who is this?" I'm an only child and we live 2 hours away from the airport. FML
Bad connection
Today, and after a lot of effort to reconnect with my family after a while of limited contact, I found out from the family group text that my mom, sister, and grandmother went on a vacation without me, and I didn’t even know about it until they posted some airport selfies. FML
Today, I returned home from a three-week vacation. None of my friends realized I'd been gone. FML
Tight knit family
Today, I went to visit my parents after 4 years of not seeing them. They'd moved without telling me. FML
You really shouldn't have
Today, I was awakened by knocking on my door, only to find my parents standing there. Turns out, they booked two one-way tickets to visit me from another country. Their plan? I should scrap my upcoming 2-week vacation to hang out because they invested in this trip. Oh, and they didn't book a hotel. I'm 31. FML
See ya!
Today, my family was leaving for a weekend trip and was supposed to pick me up on the way down. About an hour before they are supposed to arrive, my mom calls to tell me that there's no room left in the car, so they won't be stopping to get me. FML
Today, my parents and I went to the movies for my mom's birthday. After the movie, my mom and dad got into a fight, and left me at the movies. My cell phone was dead, and my house was about 12 miles away. They finally came and picked me up, hours later. FML
Today, I bumped into my parents at the mall. They didn't tell me they were around. I live 5,000 miles away, in a different country from them. FML
Lost
Today, my parents started fighting at a restaurant. Embarrassed, I went to the restroom to get away and stayed in there for about 15 minutes, knowing how long their fights can last. When I came back, they were gone. They'd ditched me, and left me to walk several miles back home. FML
Today, I was left at home alone while my friends went on a trip to Paris I paid for. FML

That sucks. Props for helping out the poor kids here. I think it's funny how some people assume that everyone from South Africa is poor and lives in a shack. Yes there are a lot ot people like that, but S.A is mainly cities. I'm white, born and raised and living in a city in S.A. Nothing third world African poverty about it. So everyone who says YDI for coming here can die in a hole. I admire you for coming this far to help out the less fortunate, and your parents will someday admire you too.

Maybe you shouldn't be doing it for parental approval.

While that is unfortunate, you make it sound like your parents should do absolutely nothing but sit around anxiously awaiting your return. Do you have any idea how easy it is to mix up return days when you a) have to wait nearly a month and b) the person you're picking up is coming from somewhere it possibly is another day? Parents have things to worry about other than their children, you know.

I do agree that its easy to mix up dates and what not but children should always be a first priority for the parents, they should have gotten things figured out ahead of time and OP should have called in between airports (since they most likely had to stop at least once) to tell her parents if her arrival was still expected to be on time or not. It's one thing if the parents were a little late but the OP didn't specify how long she had to wait to be picked up. Anything longer than an hour would be a **** up on the parents and that just seems irresponsible to me. Unless the OP is 18 or older than it isn't really the parents' responsibility anymore, but still if they said they would be there, they should have been there..
