Today, I got a call from a prominent orchestra asking me to play with them. They were especially interested because I'm still in high school. I called to accept only to find out that my mother had already declined the offer for me because I "only" have a 3.7. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I came home and told my mom that I got the lead in the school musical, which I was very happy about. She pulled me into a hug then said, "But you know you can't really sing, right?" FML
Got talent?
Today, I told my mom that I want to try out for a singing competition on TV, so I might be able to kick off my musical career. She convinced me to sing a song for her, so I did. Mid-way through, she lost it, burst into laughter, and told me to stay in school. FML
Make your minds up
Today, I was offered a job that pays far more than I expected, being a high school senior. My parents decided they aren't letting me take the job, saying I should enjoy my childhood. They're also not paying for my college, which is why I was looking for work in the first place. FML
Excuse you?
Today, after spending years volunteering at community theatres and being accepted into a prestigious university for theatrical design, my public high school gave me a scholarship. All my mother could say was, "I'm sorry they wasted their money on you." FML
Make an entrance, not a scene
Today, I was a guest performer for a school orchestra concert a grade above mine. When they called my name, I didn’t hear them, so when they started the song hundreds of people watched me run on stage. FML
Support act
Today, and for my entire childhood, my parents made me play the piano until I gave in and just learned to enjoy it somehow. Now, I actually have an opportunity to play professionally, and what did my parents say? “Don’t bother, musicians hardly ever make good money. Get a real job instead.” FML
Today, my mom told me that she was selling my favorite thing in the world, my trombone. The only thing that I'm good at is the trombone. FML
Today, I played in a high school concert. Some alumni of the band were sitting in the audience and were brought to tears. Not because it was beautiful, but because they were sad to see how much the music program had declined since they left. FML
Fake it til you make it
Today, I went out to dinner with my mom and several of her friends. My mom spent the entire night gushing about my Ivy League school and med student boyfriend. I attend a state university and I'm single. She threatened to cut me off if I didn't play along. FML
Today, my mom called and told me I got accepted to my first-choice college. I got really excited and asked her to read me the letter. As she started to read it, she said, "Oops... uh, nevermind." FML

Judging by your name, I assume you play the bass. That makes this suck even more because the standup bass is an amazing instrument that takes a ton if talent and finesse to play well, especially well enough to be invited into a prestigious orchestra. I hope that you insisted on still playing with them! FYL indeed, I'd be both angry and sad in that situation.

FYL. Just... FYL. We should probably have a category for "meddling parents" ._. what's up with that, really?

Forgive your mom and get over it. If you're really this talented, you'll have many more opportunities- so don't give up on practicing. At the same time, if the orchestra thing hadn't panned out and you'd followed it at the expense of your studies, you'd be screwed anyway. So deal with it and stop whining.

Even if it hadn't worked out for them, joining the orchestra wouldn't necessarily have been at the expense of their studies. Personally, in high school I worked better the busier I was. I had a problem with procrastination, but if I knew I had other things to do (such as practice for something I enjoyed) I wouldn't procrastinate on the things I didn't like. During cheerleading season, and before every play I was in, my grades went up a full letter in almost every class. But, what's done is done. OP will hopefully get another shot at some point.

You should convince your mom to let you trade households for a day with a child who is WAY above average but doesn't do their work/doesn't try so they fail school. Let her see for herself what she truly has.

Time to have serious "talk" with your mom. I give you permission to use fists and pots or pans in that "talk"
