Today, I found out that the engineers I work with believe that a woman with an engineering degree working in an engineering company is apparently equivalent to a "secretary for engineers." I am that woman. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, within the span of one day, the owner of the business I work at said I could write "Technical & Compliance Manager" on paperwork where I was the approver for engineered compliance of product regulatory records, but also that I was "basically just a secretary." FML
Today, I was conducting a meeting regarding safety concerns on my field site. While I made a comment, a client rep yelled out that women don't know construction, and that I should be acting like a proper secretary and should get my boss. I'm the Construction Manager. FML
Today, I found out that, although I have the same job title and complete the same work as my male colleagues, I get paid 15% less, purely because I'm a girl. FML
Today, at work, I heard a child whisper, "Mom, why do that woman's ears look like that?" The mom replied, "Because she's not smart enough for a good job." I have large plug ears and a degree in mechanical engineering. I waitress because no engineering firm will hire me. FML
Today, I started work as the head engineer for a big civil engineering project. I met the rest of my team, in particular the environmental engineer who I'll need to get along with the most. As it turns out, I took her virginity when we were freshmen in college. She still thinks I'm an asshole. FML
Today, I told my supervisor that I want to do the work I was hired to do, which is Data Engineer. He told me he doesn't have the workload for another data engineer, and needs someone with people skills. He's very happy with the current situation. I left my previous job because of the same problem. FML
Today, I realised being the only female engineering student sucks. I have exactly one friend, because everyone else is too busy staring at my boobs to have a conversation. FML
Today, I found out that my assistant is now my manager. FML
Today, it was still easier for me to get an engineering PhD than it is to get a girlfriend. FML
Today, after working at the same place for 3 years, I found out that they are not only cutting my hours but now I have to take orders from some girl I trained because she was promoted over me. FML

I'm also an engineer... and you don't know in the almost 4 years I've been working how I longed for a fellow engineer girl. Sometimes you need that touch that a team of only men don't have. IMHO, I find smart girls sexy.

As a female engineer with more degrees than some of my male counterparts, I feel your pain. There will always be types like those in fields with disproportionate numbers of men and women. Unless you were hired to do secretarial work, the company must value what you have to offer as an engineer, so do your best to disregard your foolish coworkers, but don't be afraid to document incidents and speak to a supervisor or HR if their attitudes interfere with your work or safe work environment.

All the guys that are coming back with the kitchen and sandwich comments are most likely the dudes with tiny dicks and/or have so little experience with anything other than a blow up doll that they blow it before they can even figure out how to get it in.....

Wow, they suck. I'm an engineer (software) and in my experience, probably because it's a profession that attracts roughly 9 men to 1 woman, the female engineers who I do meet are exceedingly competent.

Working in male dominated fields can be tough. I always felt like I had to work harder to prove myself and even after that I'd end up with lower pay for the same background even though I could do the work better then some. I sucked it up cause I loved what I was doing. I left that career for other reasons and while my new one is male dominated as well it's not nearly as bad with having to prove myself. Don't do what I did and burn yourself out trying to show you are as good or better. It's something they have to work through.
