Today, I found out that my beautiful engagement ring is a remake of the late Princess Diana's engagement ring. I also found out my fiancé bought it from an infomercial, for $19.95. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I found out that my engagement ring was actually my husband's ex-fiancée's. FML
Today, while shopping at American Eagle, I found the same "$1,500" wedding ring my fiancé proposed to me with, marked on sale for $10.95. FML
Today, I found out my fiancée has been sleeping with the salesman I bought her engagement ring from. He knew. FML
How can I put this…?
Today, I went with my girlfriend to the mall. We were looking at jewellery in Zales and she came across the engagement rings. She looks at one and says, "Are you kidding me? That ring is hideous and it's the most expensive one here! Who the fuck would buy that?" Well, that would be me. FML
OK then
Today, my girlfriend found the engagement ring I'd bought. She looked at it and said, "This is pathetic. You shouldn't even bother." FML
So romantic
Today, my boyfriend proposed to me with the prettiest, most simple ring I have ever seen. I called my sister to tell her the good news, and her response was, "I know. He had me steal the ring from Claire's." FML
Today, I found out my boyfriend was going to propose. He'd bought me a beautiful white gold ring that I never got to see. His estranged mom stole the ring. FML
Today, I went to sell my wedding rings, due to the fact that I'm getting divorced from a man who cheated on me. The jeweler informed me that the stone in my engagement ring is fake. I won't even be able to cover the divorce costs from the proceeds. FML
Delayed proposal
Today, my girlfriend found the engagement ring I bought and assumed it was a late birthday present. She’s now wearing it on her right hand like a signet ring and she somehow hasn’t figured out it’s a diamond and not a Swarovski. I'm now waiting for her to figure it out before I pop the question. FML
Today, my boyfriend won a diamond engagement ring through a citywide competition. Instead of proposing to me, he's selling it. FML

The important thing is that you like it and he got it for you.

Wait--did you think your ring was made from genuine stones? You do realize a one-inch real sapphire would have cost upwards of $50,000, right? If you and your boyfriend are serious enough to get engaged, you should have a general idea of his income and his means. For example, if he's between jobs, yet presents you with a diamond big enough to fry eggs on, that should automatically tell you it's not a real diamond. Is the problem that he lied about your ring being genuine, that he can afford better and he's being a cheapskate, or that you're marrying a poor man and this is all he can afford? Either way, your best bet is to tell him the ring isn't quite what you want to wear for the rest of your life. Sit down together and figure out a realistic budget, then go to the jewelry store TOGETHER (making sure to stick to the budget).

FFML_314, I completely agree with you. I think there's much more deceit to this story than OP could fit in the 200 characters. She sounds more hurt by lack of thought than superficial to me. Also all the girls saying that they got cheap rings: Those are going to be a hell of a lot classier than an infomercial ring.

I wouldn't wear it OP. The cheap metal it is made from will probably turn your finger green.

Yea but that's actually cute. Getting someone a ring from an informercial is just plain tacky.

He fell for the British Historic Society scam?

Oh boohoo. Stop complaining. At least he proposed in the first place. It's not the price that matters, its the thought. And just because the price is cheap doesn't necessarily mean the metal/jewels are. Get over your self.

I don't think people are really understanding what the FML is here. I doubt OP is complaining about the price as much as the fact that the ring is just some cheap novelty item on an infomercial that her fiance saw on TV, instead of putting in some effort and actually going out to look for a ring. I understand that women shouldn't require a certain price tag on an engagement ring or any gift for that matter. But I also believe the guy shouldn't be a cheapskate about it either. If all he can afford is a $20 ring, that raises a red flag. Either they've fallen on such hard times that they should probably get their life together before getting engaged or married. or he just didn't even try because he doesn't care. OP I don't see how you couldn't tell it was a cheesy replica. I have costume jewelry that looks better than those things. All I can say is either reevaluate how seriously he's taking your engagement or apply some clear nail polish on the inside of your engagement ring, lest it turn your finger green.

Who cares? Most couples don't even have engagement rings.

Further propagating the stereotype that all women really care about is what a man can buy them.

Again, no ring at all is classier than one from an infomercial.
