Today, after weeks of therapy for severe depression, my therapist thought it would be helpful to confess my deepest problems to my friends, to prove that it was alright to trust people. I did. They laughed. Hard. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Bad start
Today, I went to see a therapist for the first time because I've been feeling depressed lately. I opened up and said everything that was on my mind. I really spilled my guts. After a good 30 minutes, her first question was, "Do you always talk this much?" FML
Today, my therapist clapped for me when I told her I'd made a friend. FML
Today, I went to therapy. I started talking about my childhood and my life. By the time the session was over my therapist was crying. FML
Next!
Today, while I was explaining my troubles to my therapist, he asked me, "And don't you have someone you can tell all that?" FML
Funny story
Today, my therapist started laughing at me whilst I was telling my story. He said, "Sorry, I can't help it" and burst out laughing. FML
Sharing is caring
Today, I finally shared some of my insecurities and difficulties I’m experiencing with a close friend. The response was great, they listened, and gave advice. Later I met another friend, who said that they’re here for me. Everyone was just trying to help, but now almost everyone I know knows. I feel worse than before. FML
Emotional
Today, I've been seeing a therapist after more than 20 years of struggles. I think I saw him cry during our sessions a few times. I guess that my inability to live my life at the fullest was hard earned. FML
BFF
Today, after my therapist told me I should open up to my friends more, I sent a message to a pen-pal and told her that I had asked for and found help with my postpartum troubles. She replied that I'm a bad friend for "always burdening her with my problems." FML
Honestly?
Today, my friend needed to talk out bad feelings. Then she urged me to open up as well. I hate doing it, but it only seemed fair, so I confessed my deep insecurities. Not only did she agree with everything, but she also helpfully added that I'm boring, have no life, and all my dreams are unattainable. FML
Red flag
Today, I tried therapy to talk about my problems without feeling like i am harassing anyone. After messaging a therapist for over 2 hours, I felt way better and finally understood. It turned out I'm in such a bad mental state that I'm a danger to myself and others. Police were called by the therapist. FML

I think you need some new friends. Depression is a very serious thing.

Same things happen to me. I open up to the people closest to me; ie, my friends, and all they do is insult me and laugh at me.

It's OK. It happened to me too, twice. My parents didn't believe me when I told them I had depression and told me I had to 'take some vitamins'...

dude, I know where you are. I suffer from severe depression also. u'll make it through and u'll find people. Your friends might have just been shocked and didn't know how to react. Its alright. There are lots of people that suffer as you are now. You'll find them and you will help each other. just keep going

You need a new therapist. Never, ever, would I have someone confess deepest anything to friends because if you felt you could trust them with the information, you would have told the already - and I'm a layperson and not a therapist. I hope that you find the right combination of therapy and possibly medication to help you. Depression sucks, but as others have said, you can make it through. This comes from a bipolar person who had attempted suicide numerous times, and now, with medication and behavioral therapy, isn't suicidal anymore. Good luck.

FAKE! A therapist would never do that. And if he did, sue!!!

The guy told his friends, not the therapist. But yeah. Dang what's this therapist's name? S/he needs to be blacklisted.

Weeks of therapy and friends? I think you don't know what 'severe' depression is, yet.

Well, it probably was the therapist's idea to diagnose him with severe depression. Or he just got severe depression after being made fun by the few friends he still had. I wish I could help him, I passed through depression, and I know how he must feel.

At least you aren't getting sympathy. Too bad that sympathy was what you were looking for.
