Today, after 8 months of being belittled and treated like trash at my job as a prep cook in a high-end kitchen, I stood up for myself to the line cooks. Not only did everyone laugh at me, I got fired for causing a scene during service and insubordination. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Get back here!
Today, the slow, incompetent kitchen staff was keeping customers waiting for their food for 20 minutes. I got sick of a bunch of grown adults with kids my age ganging up on me, so I quit on the spot, and walked. Some guy grabbed me by the collar and dragged me back to the register. People cheered. FML
Today, I was preparing a customer's meal in my restaurant's kitchen, when I choked on my own saliva and went into a coughing fit. The head chef, who's always hated my guts, accused me of trying to hock a loogie into the meal and fired me on the spot. FML
Tactical
Today, I got fired from work. Why? I finally took a stand for myself and confronted my coworker of writing things up in my name for herself, and it getting deducted from my check. So she went to the manager and accused me of sexual harassment. FML
Yelp
Today, I was fired from my job as a waitress, all because someone complained there was too much seasoning in their food. As I said, I'm a waitress. This happened the same week I was hired. FML
Today, I was fired without warning from my job because I was not consulting my boss about things like washing dishes and throwing away garbage. Basically, I was fired for being too good at my job. FML
How very dare you?
Today, I was getting lunch at a fast food restaurant. My boss was in front of me, and in order to get on his good side I offered to pay. Instead, I got fired because I guess my boss assumed I was making fun of his salary, which I knew nothing about. FML
Fried
Today, I was fired from my job because I would "scare" the customers. Two days ago, a coworker spilled fry oil onto the grill, causing flames to singe my eyebrows and the front of my hair off. FML
Today, I got fired from my job as a seafood manager because an entire wedding group came in and started yelling at me, saying the shrimp was horrible and I ruined their wedding. They showed me the leftovers; they never cooked them. They fed raw shrimp at a wedding dinner party. FML
Management
Today, I was fired because I spoke up about a supervisor mistreating me. The assistant VP spent the meeting demeaning me to “teach me a lesson” and then said she was firing me because I “stirred the pot." Man, I really loved that job but I won’t miss the toxic work culture. FML
Customer relationships
Today, I assisted a customer at work. She was asking me all sorts of stupid questions and acting like an entitled, spoiled brat. When she left, since I had a mask on, I meant to mouth, "Stupid bitch" but I blurted it out loud. Everyone heard. I was fired. FML

At least you tried to stand up for yourself. You don't deserve to be treated like that.

Maybe if you did it with a knife in your hand they wouldnt have laughed so much...

They really must have stirred you up until you were simmering. If they weren't treating their coworkers properly then standing up for yourself was eggsactly appropriate.

My uncle is a chef I remember he told me it happens to all prep cooks, he used to be one. It's kinda like firefighting. You need to work your way up with the amount of years of experience you get.

You're better off without them, OP. Now you can look for a job where you are appreciated and treated with respect.

Yes but now he has no references at his last job. Common Workplace Rules: 1) Don't ever burn your bridges no matter how much you hate your job. 2) Never cause a scene where fellow employees and customers can hear you.

Common misconception, If you explain you did it because of harassment issues, then the Employer will understand. And if they don't, that's not a god job to begin with because they most likely will do the same thing

Do you know how many people I get come in who have been fired (often many times) who claim it's not their fault? Every one who's been fired. Somehow every job they got fired from was "abusive" and "deserved" the actions that got the person fired. All those applications go in the trash.

Well hey, at least you've still got the experience. Now you can try to find a higher-end restaurant to take your services to, where hopefully the line cooks aren't as jerkish. Then again, I get the feeling that a lot of chefs are like that...anyhow, good luck OP!

Stood up for yourself how? Depending on if you were calm and assertive or threw a fit which disrupted service I'm torn between FYL and YDI. To my mind respect is earned. If you deserved it depends entirely on how you handled yourself.

You have to work your way up in a kitchen

Call corporate?
everton99 16
What do you mean call corporate? If its a high end restaurant the odds are pretty good that a corporation doesn't own it. It's gonna be owned by either one person or a small group of people.
