Today, I e-mailed the online instructor for my job, telling her that I had fallen behind in my work due to my grandmother's passing and the subsequent funeral arrangements, but that I would catch up this week. Her reply? "OK. Hope your grandmother gets better soon." FML

Well she read it at least...just a bit off via statement or it could have been sent to you on accident...

Wow...just, wow. Talk about inattentive and insensitive. My condolences on your loss, OP.

At least she's understanding, even if she didn't read the whole thing carefully. It could have been much worse, and just a "too bad, you're fired."

Sounds like something my online instructor would say. Some people just read email too fast. They are too busy with more "important" things.

I hope this can be attributed to a language barrier issue...

While definitely not the best thing to say, at least she was understanding enough to let you take the time off, even if she mistook 'passing' for 'just sick'.

This would be the source of endless trolling of the prof from me.
