I was thinking that it was so the parents can rub one in. Ex: so here I am at this wedding, what do you want me to do? Neither is the show all that awesome. Early on it was all right, but just because most other sitcoms on TV suck doesn't mean people should elevate the mediocre ones. That episode was decently funny, though.
