Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I woke up to find out that my tinnitus has suddenly worsened. I used to be able to just ignore it, but now it's ridiculous. Almost everyone says I'm "too young" to have it, especially this bad. I say those people can go fuck themselves. FML
Today, I have an ear infection, and everything I hear echoes inside my head. I'm an orchestra teacher, and we have our first concert next week. FML
Today, I woke up completely deaf, for no reason. My doctor told me my hearing loss, "could possibly be permanent." I’m a composer. FML
Today, after years of restless sleep in a noisy city, I finally moved to a very quiet place. So quiet that I realized I have tinnitus. I need to play background noise to cover it, so I can manage to get some sleep. FML
Today, because my room was cold as ice, I couldn't sleep in there, so I went to my living room. It was at that moment that I realized just how bad my tinnitus is when I don't have my fan or any other form of constant noise to drown it out. I couldn't stop focusing on it, so I remained awake all night. FML
Today, after months of daily migraines and doctor's visits, I've now been told that my "temporary" hearing loss has nothing to do with my migraines, nor is it temporary at all. FML
Today, my right ear drum ruptured. My family doesn't understand that I only lost hearing in one ear and continues to talk about me behind my back, thinking I can't hear them. FML
Today, I woke up this morning to find out I have lost all ability to hear. Not only is that medically concerning, it also means that now I can’t listen to the new albums I just bought. FML
Today, and for the past few days, I've become aware that it's absolutely the worst time ever to get an infection after getting my right ear pieced, and having to walk around with a big Band-aid on my earlobe. FML
Today, my doctor told me that the intense, non stop ringing in my ears, which started suddenly at the beginning of the year, has no cure, no treatment options, and I just need to learn to live with it. I have severe auditory sensory issues, and have barely been getting by. I don't know what to do. FML

There's no need to worry IF it's permanent. It is. Always keep some background noise going to keep from losing your mind from "hearing" the tinnitus by itself. That might work.

I've had tinnitus since 2009. You get used to it eventually and there are ways to mitigate its impact on your quality of life. For sleeping, I run a fan at night and stopped using headphones to listen to music. Limit alcohol and caffeine as they make it worse. Eat right, exercise, sleep well. Wear earplugs in the club or better yet, don't go anymore. (There should be legal limits on how loud the music should be played.) Talk to your doctor about any advancements in treatment. Good luck.
