Today, I start my second week of jury duty. I was only supposed to do one week of jury duty and then go on a week of a pre-paid vacation. Instead, I’m required to go back to court this week, I’m spending my evenings doing my regular job, and I lost nearly $1,000 that I pre-paid for lodging. FML

Today, I came home after spending two days in the hospital for suicidal ideation and found a summons for jury duty in the mail. FML
Today, after moving back in with my parents, I found out they had held on to a chunk of mail still being sent during the time I had been changing my old address. Included was a summons to jury duty. FML
Today, I got a letter in the mail telling me to report for jury duty. The day that I have to show up is the day of my wedding. FML
Today, after sleeping in, I finally sorted through a stack of mail I had been putting off and I found a Jury summons. Thinking it must be coming up soon, I checked the date, my appearance is scheduled for 7:45am on November 16th. Today is November 17th. FML
Today, despite being innocent, I’m out $10,000 for bail, lawyers, and missed work. We haven’t even got a trial date yet, and if it goes to trial I’m out another $5000. Then I might have to go to jail. Oh and my employer just cut my pay and bonuses. FML
Today, I got a call from the county’s courthouse where I used to live saying I was being sued for fraud and expected in court to defend myself. Apparently, my ex took a loan out in my name and now I get to pay $2300 worth of legal fees and restitution to this loan company. FML
Today, I was told there was a bench warrant out for my arrest because a notice to appear for jury duty was sent to my old address and I never responded. I haven't lived at my old address for 2 years. FML
Today, it was my court date for a car accident I was involved in back in July. I had spent months preparing a case to prove my innocence. I was scheduled to appear at 10:00 this morning. I woke up at 10:15AM. FML
Today, I had to help pick a jury for trial. I had to do a roll call to make sure that everyone was present. I stood up in front of a packed courtroom and said, “Okay, I’m going to do a roll call to make sure that everyone is here and pregnant.” FML
Today, my professor stated that every student who had perfect attendance would be exempt from taking the final. Having perfect attendance so far, I was thrilled. Then come to find out I have jury duty the day before the exam; she won't excuse my absence. FML

can you not send in some forms showing you had jury duty to get a refund? and for something like that you should have biased yourself out of duty. your head wont be in it, and I doubt you cared much about the case thinking and worrying about your vacation... better bet for you and the system is to force a replacement with hopefully less distractions.

The courts do not cover anything whatsoever as jury duty is a civic duty for living in a country this free. I know, i know, it feels like a royal pain and big cost, but that's life.

Grewat answer, Grizz! Having worked in the hospitality industry, I can pretty much guarantee that OP's deposit or prepayment will be refunded. "Nonrefundables" can always be refunded inlegitimate instances where the reason is out of the guest's control. Please, OP, do as Grizz said. Your best choice is to just call the place and tell them what has happened and ask how to get a refund. Don't take no as an answer, ask for the manager if they won't refund it. Go as high up as you need to. But you likely won't need to escalate this one at all.

you shoulda been able to tell the court that you have a vacation planned and atleast be shifted to a later date
