Miscarriages are unfortunately quite common. We’ve dealt with 2 and at least a couple of my wife’s friends have had one as well, as well as some relatives. Most couples don’t talk about it much because it’s often private and personally painful to discuss, but based on the sample of people close enough to actually say anything, I expect it’s something far more people have dealt with than you’d think. Best wishes for your sister. Turn off Instagram for a bit and just be there for her. It’s going to be a hard few weeks.

I'm going with YDI here, because of your attitude. Miscarriage is a shattering thing to go through, and you're making this about you. Who cares what you announced on Instagram? Why does that even matter and how is your Instagram post even remotely an FML for you?

I know someone who thinks miscarriages have always been very common we just have better technology to know sooner when we are pregnant. Before people would have miscarriages and not even know because it was too early to know they were pregnant and early on it could just seem like your period.

You seem to imply that there's a cause-and-effect relationship between your boasting on Instagram (a subsidiary of Meta) and the miscarriage. It probably doesn't exist.

First, my sympathies for the parents who had the stillborn. Your embarrassment or disappointment is nothing like their sense of loss. Second, sometimes things we anticipate simply don’t come to fruition. That’s why people tend to sit on good news until they know it’s true. Your announcement didn’t cause this and it’s just embarrassing and disappointing for you. Third, in the future don’t make announcements like this until it seems a certainty.

while it's a shit move to make this about yourself, I'd like to believe that your grief over the loss of a new life is tangling your words. I hope your family pulls through ok.
