Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I was called a horrible excuse for a mother just for buying formula for my baby. I just don’t produce any milk of my own. FML
Today, most of my immediate family do nothing but criticise me for not breastfeeding. My mom even threatened to call CPS for child abuse, no matter how many times I explain I physically don’t produce milk, and formula feeding is literally my only option. FML
Today, my husband and mother started supplementing my newborn son with formula, because they are such control freaks and don't like my son getting attached to me. He was doing very well while exclusively breastfed according to the doctor. But it looks like my happiness or my son's well-being is of zero importance. FML
Today, my baby son latched onto my nipple for a feed, after a month of having to be bottle fed because he wouldn't latch. This would be fantastic, if it weren't for the fact that I'm his father, not his mother. FML
Today, I got pissed after my boyfriend tried mansplaining breastfeeding to me. I’ve nursed two children of my own, stocked and sustained two big freezers full, and still had leftovers to donate to preemies. He tried saying pumping "doesn’t increase supply" and that I just “got lucky” making so much. FML
Today, I got screamed at by a woman at work for feeding her 3-week-old infant formula instead of the bottled Kool-Aid that she packed. FML
Today, it was my brother's wedding so my mother-in-law was taking care of my 8-month-old son. When I came back to our room to check how things were going, I saw her "breastfeeding" my child. She said it was the only way to calm him down because he didn't have a pacifier. FML
Today, my over-protective husband went into an extreme fit of jealousy at the sight of me breast-feeding our newborn baby boy. He's trying to make me bottle-feed our boy, because apparently it's "wrong" to let another guy touch my boobs. FML
Today, my grandmother helped out by cooking a dish for me. It was so sweet of her, until I ended up having diarrhoea because of it. Now I'm worried to breastfeed my newborn with her food in my system. FML
Today, my mother-in-law said: "People who don't have kids are children of the devil." I'm infertile, she knows this. FML

Ignore the haters as long as you're feeding your child properly you're doing what you're supposed to. and maybe your mother-in-law just simply meant she didn't understand how the bottles work since some can be complicated. but either way congrats on the little one 🙂

FED is best! Which way you choose doesn’t matter as long as you’re happy and the little one is happy

All the way around your mother-in-law is right. You may want to look into all the benefits

You are your own person. There are a lot of factors in that decision which you do not OWE her any explanation. We had to bottle feed due to different issues with our children. You made your decision, and at this point it is her duty to spoil the bundle of joy and support you as a parent.

MIL said absolutely nothing to shame her and was probably just trying to explain why she didn't want to help by giving a bottle. OP needs to stop reading blame into anything and everything., by owning her decision.

Fed is the bare minimum. Breast is best and OP knows it and is trying to paint herself as a victim when her MIL said absolutely nothing to shame her and was probably just trying to explain why she didn't want to help by giving a bottle.

Who the hell would vote YDI!? You're the mother, it's your decision. Fed is best.

Because depending on how the MIL said it, this could easily be simply the MIL stating a fact and the OP dumping her own baggage on her. When you breastfeed you don't need to worry about properly sterilising your *******. MIL might simply have been on about not knowing the procedure given that all she needed to do was whip them out. OR the MIL might be a passive-aggressive bitch.

I pity your future/current partner and any children you may have.

It’s your decision nobody else’s

Your MIL was not shaming you in any way, she can't help it if she doesn't know about bottle feeding. You need to own your decisions.

Unless you actually wanted to breastfeed and couldn't I don't see why you feel bad about the choice. You probably thought it through and decided that this is the right balance. Just tell her that

sounds like she was telling you her own insecurity about feeding the baby with the bottle correctly, and you are projecting your own issues in to her personal statement. postpartum depression is real. fed is best, and you are the mama, Good luck in your relationship with your mother in law
