Mid-life crisis
Today, I had to break up with my boyfriend because we’re not on the same page. He doesn’t want to get married or have kids because he “wants to enjoy his youth” and “you’re only young once, don’t waste it!” He’s 38. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my boyfriend, who is 10 years older than me, told me that he never wanted to get married and that he felt bad for wasting all of my time, and he just "doesn't want the responsibility of being in a relationship." After 12 years. I just found out he's dating a younger girl. FML
Today, my boyfriend is 34 years-old. We’ve been together for 5 years. He refuses to propose to me because “marriage is expensive” and “kids drain your wallet.” That would be understandable if he hasn’t spent the majority of his paychecks on March Madness. FML
Today, my boyfriend broke up with me because he says, "There's too much of an age gap between us" and that it makes him "feel like a pedophile". He's only four months older than I am. FML
Today, my boyfriend broke up with me, as he'd realised that life is really short, and he's got to enjoy with his friends. FML
Today, my boyfriend told me he doesn't think he should marry me, because I have kids. They're his kids. FML
Today, I saw on Facebook that my ex of 6 years got married a few days ago. We broke up a year and a half ago because we had different plans; I wanted marriage and kids, and he wanted to “enjoy life and have fun.” Guess I’m not good enough to “enjoy life and have fun” with. FML
Today, my boyfriend of one year and seven months left me for not wanting to have a baby yet. I'm seventeen years old. FML
Today, in the same sentence, my boyfriend told me that he wanted to "spend the rest of his life with me," and "I want to break up with you because I can't face your family." FML
Today, I read an FML about a guy who only kissed his girlfriend to make her shut up up. I left a comment, telling him to break up with her and stop wasting her time, only to realise I’d wasted 3 years on my abusive alcoholic ex. I’m now 30 and starting to think I’m getting too old to find someone and have kids. FML
Today, my 54 year-old partner is leaving me for his 26 year-old coworker. She’s younger than our two kids, 32 and 29. He seriously sees nothing wrong because she’s “a consenting adult.” FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?
Thanks, your FML was submitted, and will appear in the moderation queue soon!

Age is just one dimension of a person. Different people have different goals in life - And often those goals do change as you get older. But at the age of 38 if he doesn’t want to be married nor to have kids it’s highly unlikely he’s going to change that opinion anytime soon… You are not “wrong” to want marriage and children if that is important to you. Your boyfriend is not “wrong” to want freedom and to have fun. But the two of you don’t have compatible goals. You aren’t going to change his mind nor will he change yours. You have realized that this isn’t going to work. A clean break was ultimately best.

Not wanting to get married or have kids doesn’t make one wrong, y’know. I know people are raised on a steady diet of “get married young, make GRANDBABIES for your parents, obey the church and feed the corporate machine” propaganda, but that doesn’t mean everyone has to do it.

You'll probably disagree with me too, but I'm on your boyfriends side, 38 is too young to have kids. And I understand that if he's older, he will probably be too old to have kids. I get that, I'm still on his side! And I think that it's a side effect of how we millennials grew up... I busted my ass until I was 30, to get to where I am now (and I got there fast compared to most of my classmates). I worked hard, to get a good job, to have a wage where I can afford my bills with easy and have some leftover, to have job security, to have an affordable mortgage, ... I did not live until 30, then from 30 to 33 I had to learn how to live, because I never did... I was just working to get to a point where I felt secure, and that means I would only have gotten 5years of a free life before I would need to bust my ass again for my child until they're 25 or something. That's not enough. I need more then 5 free stressless years. So I 100% get him! 38 is too young.

Probably a good call, people tend to stay very firm on marriage & kids. If he say's he's not ready I doubt he ever will be, with you.
