Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I gave a toast at my friend's wedding. When I said, "Everybody raise your glasses," an industrial fan went off and blew my dress over my head. Now, people won't stop talking about how my "blue granny panties" didn't match my dress. FML
Today, the dry cleaner next to my house went up in flames. I went outside to look at the fire, as I looked on in amazement I realized I had dropped off all of my work clothes at the cleaners two days before. I was supposed to pick them up today, but was too lazy to walk the 10 feet to the store. FML
Today, I got a call that my custom order bridesmaid dress is at the apartment complex I just moved out of. They won’t give it to me because I’m no longer a resident, but they just thought I should know. The wedding’s tomorrow. FML
Today, my maid of honor, who offered to take care of my wedding dress before the D-Day, left it near her open window during heavy rain. My dress is now ruined, and she's backed out due to stress. I'm supposed to be getting married tomorrow. FML
Today, at my mom's wedding, I tripped as I was walking down the aisle. I was holding the train of her dress. It ripped. FML
Today, after saving up for a beautiful new dress to wear to my partner's 30th birthday party, it finally arrived in the post. I tried the dress on and the stitching instantly ripped, leaving two big holes in it. Turns out I'm no longer a size 8. FML
Today, my former fiancée, who I stopped seeing 5 months ago, married another guy. She wore the dress that I'd purchased for our would-be wedding. FML
Today, I got married wearing a strapless dress. As I walked down the aisle, our wedding photographer stepped out behind me to get a shot of me approaching my husband. Instead of stepping out, though, he stepped on. Stepped on my dress. Pulling it completely down. FML
Today, I got the dress I gave to a tailor to replace a broken zipper back. When I tried it on, I discovered that they’d cut at least 4 inches of fabric, and being skinny, there’s no way I can ever fit into it. It’s from the 1950’s, inherited from my late grandma, who in turn inherited it from her aunt. FML
Today, I found out my mother-in-law sold a precious family heirloom and gambled away the money. FML

Did you have insurance on it? I’m assuming they will at least and I mean least pay you back or offer a new dress. Obviously it won’t have the same meaning.

With all due respect to what you are saying; I do not feel that op is being a bridezilla in this matter. She is only expressing herself in an understandably tramatic situation for all who are involved.

That's very unfortunate, I'm sorry you lost a precious thing that was beloved in your family but please don't be upset with the company. I'm sure they feel bad about it but they too lost something precious to them(assuming it's a small business), they just lost their source of income and probably had to let some good people go in this dier time. Everyone in this situation is at a loss so please don't be bridezilla and only think of yourself and try to be supportive to them as well and hope no one was hurt.

I understand that thank you. that apparently didnt sound the way I thought it would and completely agree. sorry if it seems I was calling anyone bridezilla but I was actually trying to compliment op for handling it this well. some would not show sympathy towards the company and I was making sure op knew that. op took the right path in handling this well.

It sounded like the comment was meant as a request and not a reprimand...

I'm not sure I understand the situation here. Why would you send your wedding dress to a company and what company? It's weird.

For a dress that has seen 3 previous generations of marriage & worn by 3 other women, it is HIGHLY improbable that it would fit the OP properly. The company in question is probably one that provides restoration and tailoring services to adjust the fit to the OP and restore / repair any damage that may have come with age. That kind of work might not necessarily be doable on site at a local tailor, the OP could live in an area without a tailor skilled in that work, or any of many other plausible reasons necessitating the dress be sent off.

My god that’s horrifying

If you get some sort of reimbursement, I wonder if someone would be able to at least try to make a new one for you that looks just like the original dress. Of course it won't be the same, but it would surely be better than nothing.

I'm so sorry. This is truly a tragedy for your family. I hope you can find another dress to wear.
