Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, after I spent 3 months secretly learning guitar so I could surprise everyone at a family barbecue, the moment finally came. I sat down, took a deep breath, and realized I'd practiced every song with a capo I forgot to bring, as well as my tuner. Everything sounded terrible. My uncle asked if I was improvising Free Jazz. FML
Today, I spent 3 hours in my home recording studio. I was recording vocals and was trying to hit a very hard series of notes. I nailed it after 2 hours and listened. You can hear the vocals, but the EQ settings were tweaked in just the right way where you can hear my dog licking his nuts. FML
Today, I learned how to play "Happy Birthday" on the guitar, just to have my friend tell me that my voice sucks, and that I needed to stop immediately. FML
Today, and for my entire childhood, my parents made me play the piano until I gave in and just learned to enjoy it somehow. Now, I actually have an opportunity to play professionally, and what did my parents say? “Don’t bother, musicians hardly ever make good money. Get a real job instead.” FML
Today, months after buying my first bass guitar and taking bass lessons using my own money, I realized that my parents refused to buy me an instrument, claiming that I sucked at it. What actually happened is that they didn't feel like paying for some "teenage bullshit." FML
Today, I started recording my piano exam pieces to submit, and I was proud at my interpretation that I spent time trying to make it sound good. That was until my tutor walked in and said I had "shit rhythm and ass intonation." My mom was there. FML
Today, I forgot to tune my guitar pre-performance. Surprising, because it was in tune when I frantically did it by ear backstage. Too bad two of the six strings snapped, smacking the drummer in the face. FML
Today, my roommate eavesdropped on me singing. When I realized he was there, he said I was "fucking incredible" and asked me to do another song. There's just one issue: I only sing well when I'm alone. The result was predictably bad. If it was possible to literally die of embarrassment, I wouldn't be writing this. FML
Today, I woke up to find my home studio cleared of most of my music gear. Apparently, my brother went on a Tinder date with a stranger late at night, and decided it to bring her to my place's guest room since my house "was closer." I'd been building that studio for over 10 years. FML
Today, after entering a conservatory of music, I've worked really hard on my academic subjects to past through the exam, so my major is pretty weak. After practising 6 hours a day for three weeks, my teacher asked me to change my major and said I'm the worst student she's ever seen. And there‘s nowhere I can go. FML

Why would you make yourself a studio before you knew your capabilities?

Sounds like you're an impulse buyer...with no sense of finance. I have this pen here I would like to sell you, it's amazing, it writes on any surface made of unsealed paper and will never run out of ink so long as you don't use it. The colour is amazing, it is a previously undiscovered shade of blue that has never been seen by blind people. This pen could be yours for the low price of...say...$100,000,000! It is a true collectors item, no other pen is being sold at this price, you will be the only owner of a $1,000,000 pen! Shipping is an additional $30 but if you buy two we will ship them for free! So what are you waiting for? Message me now for this amazing offer.

Remember, grammar can mean the difference between being taken seriously, and just looking like a moron. If you think about it, he has some very valid points. OP absolutely sounds like an impulse buyer. You'd think that while he was spending all that money on a music studio, at some point over the years, he'd take time to find out if he has any music talent. There's really no need to pull a bullshit attitude like that.

Can someone translate?
Dracoboxer357 36
99- I seem to have this knack for crude translations. What I read was, "Keep putting more money into it. When you've invested about $15'000 into it, you'll always have to keep it new".....? Okay, never mind, I couldn't follow his train of thought any further than that. Maybe by the time you've dropped that much money into it, Op still won't have any talent, but still have the best equipment.....which still makes less sense than before, because if I lacked the ability to drive a used junker car, upgrading to a Ferrari wouldn't solve the problem. :p Sorry Kandi, it appears I overstepped my linguistic abilities and failed miserably. DocBastard has an Idiot Translator, perhaps you could ask him. :(

Record other people for money. Lots of musicians are on the look out for a recording studio. But I suggest you get yourself a basic sound engineering course first, that stuff's golden if you are a complete beginner. Practice yourself on whatever instrument you want to play, but a good idea is to record yourself practicing (this is what the Beetles and Jimi Hendrix did). The reason for that is that you get to hear what you sound like, you don't have to remember everything you did (you can just listen to bits again and decide whether or not you like them, you can combine different pieces, etc). As a musician I also advise that you have a regimented, but fun, practice session. If you practice correctly and learn everything you can, all you will need to get good is about half an hours practice per day.
