La la land
Today, I confided to my dad that since the recent breakup with my boyfriend of 3 months, I feel down all the time and life doesn't feel worth living anymore. His loving advice was for me to "grow the fuck up and get your sentimental head out of la-la land." FML

While I definitely agree that feeling suicidal over a breakup is unhealthy and ridiculous, I don't think the length of the relationship should dictate how you're allowed to feel after a breakup. How long and how well you knew them before getting together makes a difference, and so does how well you get along. Some people just click right away and others don't. For example- my mum met this guy, started dating him, they were together for 8 years but were never really compatible as a couple, so she was far from upset when they broke up. On the other hand, I met a guy and instantly felt a connection with him. We were close friends for over a year before we got together and I fell more in love with him every day. When we broke up after being together for 2 months because he had to move away I was heartbroken. Again, I certainly never said that life wasn't worth living without him, but my point is, don't judge without the details. Maybe they were best friends for years and she was in love with him all that time before they actually got together. That would make a huge difference than if it was a guy she just met.

Guys, calm down. Yeah, it was only three months. But you don't know what happened before then. People can fall in love before they start dating. But I guess people have forgotten that that is possible. And it makes it worse if things ended on bad terms. I'm so sorry, OP. Your father should not have been so harsh. And if you really are feeling like life isn't worth living, I would seek professional help from someone right away. Good luck, my dear.

3 months? Are you serious? I feel like you're those over attached girlfriends.
