IRS FML

Today, I got a letter from the IRS informing me that I owed a debt of $80 dollars from 4 years ago, and that it has now grown to over $800 dollars, and it's due this month. FML

The IRS cannot do that. It sounds like a scam. Send me $200 in small, unmarked quarters and I'll settle it for you. I am totally not a scammer.

You can settle with the IRS. I know because a TV commercial told me, and they’re not allowed to lie or something like that.

Contest it. Use certified mail so they cannot deny receiving any of your mail. Email them. Call your case worker. Etc. they tried to do this to me for 2016 taxes on a state I didn’t even live in. Went from $25 to over $3k from “fees” etc. eff them. Took 2 years but I resolved it. And they sent me back $24 and some change.
