Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, at age eighteen, I finished moving out of my parents' house and into my own. The only person to even remotely give a shit was my sister, and that was only because I was taking the cat with me. FML
Today, for the first time in my life, my dad said he was proud of me. It meant a lot to me, and I started tearing up. Noticing my emotion, he looked at me pityingly, said "Aaaaand it's gone." and walked out of the room. FML
Today, I had to put my 17 year-old cat down. I cried the whole way up to the vet's office and back. After finally coming to terms with the situation, and trying to forget, my dad's friend walks up to me and says, "So, I heard you killed your cat?" FML
Today, my fiancé left for a 6-month deployment overseas. I waved him away, came back inside alone, and cried. I know this is what I signed up for, but the cat could've shown more sympathy than staring at me and walking away. FML
Today, I'm moving. While packing, I realized I hadn't seen my cat in a few hours. I called her and realized she was inside one of the hundreds of boxes in my house. I accidentally packed my cat. FML
Today, my mom disowned me and forced me to move out because I didn’t have a crying heartbroken meltdown at the death of my stepfather. She knows I hated the man's guts since the first time he slapped her, so my not caring about his death shouldn't have surprised her. FML
Today, my dad and stepmom came back from a very expensive two-month trip across the world. When they got home, they had more gifts for their cat than for me. FML
Today, I'm moving out of the house. My little sister can't wait and I've never seen my dad so happy. FML
Today, I thought about how my dad went to get me a Halloween costume and hasn't come home yet. That was 11 years ago. We've moved twice since then. FML
Today, my ex took my cat and gave her to an animal shelter while I was at work, saying he can't stand living with her any longer. He's moving out in 2 days. FML

neither of my parents cried when I moved out...I didn't know they were supposed to?

Maybe it was delayed reaction. Maybe it didn't really sink in until you took the cat. Maybe you showing up made him realize he missed you more than he expected. Lots of ways this could happen without it meaning he loved the cat more than you.

I left the cats with my parents when I moved out. Why leave your dad without even a pet to comfort him? How could you be so heartless?

I can't wait for the kids to move out, but if one of them takes the dog, I will have a break down. YDI because you have no understanding whatsoever what it's like to be a parent.

can't wait to see your kids' FML. 'my mom was fine with me leaving the house but when i wanted to take the dog she had a breakdown and started screaming because she couldn't live without it'

Uh? Your dad didn't cry when you moved out? Big deal? You want your parents to cry? Hell no! That is a strain off the wallet and they don't have to listen to you whine about garbage like this. *laughing* Get the hell off the internet!

Maybe your dad cried because when you came to take the cat, it meant that you wouldn't even visit regularly to see the cat. Earlier on, he assumed you would visit regularly. now that it struck him that you won't, he couldn't handle his emotions at that time. Trust me.. I am almost sure about this.

Yeah, my dad would not/did not cry when I left. Everytime I call him on the phone though, he says "what is the kitty doing? Rub her little ear for me. Aww. I miss kitty so much It's so hard!" ...we are one of those daughter-father families who don't hug or say I love you. So... it's kind of expected for him not to say anything about missing ME, but still kind of sad.
