Today, my friend canceled plans the day before the event, after planning to go together for over a month. He said he needed to work, which would be understandable, if his only job wasn’t for Uber where he literally sets his own hours. It’s too late to find another friend to go with. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I found out my co-worker had made plans for a night out, just as I'd cancelled all of mine to work with him on a project for the next 4 hours. FML
Today, the friend I was supposed to meet said, "Oh, I forgot to put it in my calendar." She than suggested all our friends drive out to her place in the morning (instead of the agreed afternoon) when I was unable to attend, which she knew. FML
Today, after over a month of planning, my friend had to cancel her first night out in over a year. Why? Because her "perfect" fiancé didn't want to, and started sulking when she tried to, so decided to put off letting her go out for a few more months. Apparently, it's my fault this happens. FML
Today, I heard my fiancé tell his friend that he's working on Sunday. Which is my birthday. The birthday I don't even get a party for because of Covid. My only plan was to be with him and my BFF. He says he didn't think to take the day off, and now there's "probably not enough time to get coverage." He's the manager. FML
Today, I called a Lyft to go to work. I got dressed and even watched him finish his previous ride. We all know you have a 5 minutes window. It wasn’t even 5 minutes in when he cancelled my ride. Now I’m late for work. FML
Today, the guy I've been looking forward going on a date with had to cancel due to Covid. This wouldn't have been an issue, if I didn't see him later that night posting about him at a bar with another girl. FML
Today, I received a message saying that tomorrow's plans are cancelled. I spent the whole week preparing for it, and now because of ONE person who isn't able to make it, all my efforts are gone. FML
Today, my friend had invited me to his home for a movie night with another friend. I had to decline because I have prior plans. He then revealed that they only wanted me there so I could bring DVDs, but "don't worry, we'll find something on Netflix to watch instead." FML
Today, as a good friend, I went to pick up my buddy from the airport. I arrived at the wrong terminal and waited for an hour before realizing he had landed an hour earlier at the other terminal. By the time I found his whereabouts, he'd already taken an Uber home. FML
Today, I had to cancel a plane ticket to a friend's wedding, because first he gave me the wrong date, after which his fiancée cut me from the guests because of Covid safety. Instead of paying $600 to be in the ceremony, I'm paying $400 to not go anywhere because the ticket could only be partially refunded. FML

This was a completely valid use of the word literally. The poster stated that their friend was employed by Uber where drivers can choose at any time wether they want to take rides or not. Stop being so critical

Especially when you have unpredictable work (sometimes more, sometimes less) the end of the month can get scary. Realize your friend is an adult with a job and rent to pay. Sometimes things don’t work out like you plan - When that happens getting the rent, car payment, insurance, and groceries paid takes precedence… My dad worked as a refrigeration and air conditioning installer and repairman for many years - The first few as his own business. When times were busy Dad worked 6 days a week, every week. That was necessary because the lean times come and they test your ability to survive… OP, schedule an Uber and pay for it if you need to get somewhere while your friend is working.

What the **** is "literally setting your own hours?" It's a figure of speech meaning to freely choose your work schedule. So what is the literal meaning? Is it something like bricklaying or setting bowling pins? Maybe your incessant abuse of the word "literally" is the real reason he bowed out on you.
