Hard times all around
Today, I learnt that I am going to have to cut back on what is already a skinny budget to afford my kid's childcare cost increase. I earn in the 97th percentile. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I found out I'm getting a pay cut, a week after I told my boss I need a raise or second job just to afford bills. I made the company 10k last week. FML
Today, I did my budget. I have a good job, make decent money, and work full time, but without including any flexible spending items like groceries, I make $32 less than my bills each month. FML
Today, I was notified that my work is cutting my pay almost in half. I just renewed my long-term lease on an expensive apartment because I was able to afford it before this morning. Now I have no idea how I’m going to pay for it. FML
Today, I have to go on a diet, because I can't afford to buy bigger clothes. FML
Today, I learned that as much as I try to save my money, it always just slips through my fingers. After rent, I got paid $280 yesterday, $85 went out on my gym membership, $95 went out on my internet, $125 went out on my Hello Fresh. I have to choose between half a tank of petrol or breakfast/lunch for the week. FML
Today, I finally got a raise after years of hard work! Excited, I went on a shopping spree, but as I checked the latest prices, it turns out that my extra income barely covers the increase in my grocery bill. Thanks, inflation. FML
Today, I got a 25-cent raise at work. That would be wonderful, had they not cut 6 hours off my schedule as well. I'm now making $200 less a month than I was pre-raise. FML
Today, I found out that my rent is going up by $100. This is the third year in a row. I'm on SSI ($914/month) and it was $550 when I moved in before the pandemic. I'm also morbidly obese, schizophrenic, and my family doesn't respect me. FML
Today, after 3 years at my job I received a 14% raise. I was informed I will be transitioned from hourly to salary. I will now be making $1500 LESS than I made last year. FML
Today, my husband has a chronic illness and can't work. We have 2 special needs kids who need a lot of assistance. Rent continues to go up and went up this year $570 for a total of $1800. I've taken up a second job to make ends meet, but it's increasing my depression. FML

I think the point is the irony that they earn so much and still have to budget tightly in the current economy.

They still have a right to voice their opinion, even when cutting back on non-essentials.

You mean the 3rd percentile. If you were 97th percentile, you'd have a team of nannies, governesses and au pairs to care for your brood without breaking a sweat. I'm guessing your math skills are also in the single-digit percentiles, too.

Maybe not, 97% would only mean $250k a year. Sure it sounds like a lot to most people but if your family and friends are lawyers, doctors, programmers, entrepreneurs. You could still be living pay check to pay check trying to keep up.

also depends where op lives. some places 250k would be very little right now (comparatively speaking of course.) but this is something op should look into if it is the case...

Bottom 3% is only $3,943 annually only way there paying for child care is government support or CPS.

I'm a teacher. I don't want to hear anyone complain about pay. Cut out other costly things you pay for. I do.
