Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I travelled cross-country to interview for my dream job. The team seemed to love me and I had a lot of fun. In the airport on the way home I saw a news report that the company is closing. FML
Today, I found out that I can no longer work at my dream job because of their financial status. And of course, just now that I was finally beginning to be happy with my life, something like this naturally had to happen. FML
Today, I started an awesome job with competitive pay. I also found out that the place is closing its doors in June. FML
Today, I got a phone call from my boss, who'd hired me after two months of waiting and begging for this position. A week into the job, the company is closing our store. FML
Today, I was offered my dream job. When I gave my current employer my 2+ weeks notice so they'd have time to find a replacement, I was told to pack up and leave immediately. Now I'm out a month's pay because I gave notice instead of just leaving. FML
Today, after I spent the last year working overtime to prove myself at my tech job, I got an email saying I was laid off due to “strategic restructuring.” My boss posted a vacation picture right after. FML
Today, after three interviews, I accepted an offer for my dream job and submitted my notice. The company called me to say they couldn't contact my referees and have now withdrawn the offer. I'm now officially unemployed. FML
Today, at the job I've had for eight years, I finally got the raise I was supposed to get a year ago. One hour later I found out the store was closing and we were all out of a job in two weeks. FML
Today, after months of tests, I was the only candidate left for my dream job. Then, only a few days before the last meeting before signing the contract, I get a call from HR informing me their co-worker unexpectedly came back from unpaid leave and that they are obliged to give him the job. FML
Today, it was the first day of my new job. It was also the last day of my new job. I got a call immediately after finishing my shift to be told the company has "decided to go in a different direction" and will no longer be needing my services. FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?
Thanks, your FML was submitted, and will appear in the moderation queue soon!

That’s terrible! I’m sorry that you are going through this. The chances of something good coming from this are slim. The best you can do is to try to do the job you were hired for with professionalism and sympathy for the people getting laid off. In some cases, the employees being laid off are helped to find other openings within the company - But in this case it’s not likely the company can absorb so many people. Make sure you get whatever promises were made to you on paper, because once you have closed or laid off the last of your organization you are next out the door. Frankly unless you have been given some employment guarantee or payment promise in writing, the position is not worth showing up for unless you have no other options. You will either be laid off or become the hatchet person who can be relied on to do dreadful assignments like this. Unless you are a sociopath (and I hope you are not) this will be a very unpleasant assignment. And finally there is no more life employment and has not been for a very long time. You are only as good as your last and next project - Everything gets reevaluated based on current results and future trends. People who last a long time within a company do so because they are earning the company considerably more money than they are paid - Thats the reality of the capitalist system. Learn how the system works so you can work within it instead of being used and discarded.
