Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, my shrink diagnosed me as severely depressive, due to a lot of stress and yells at home. After the session, my parents argued about whose fault it was and then went on to yell at me for being depressive and wasting their money. FML
Today, my dad insists I have to deep clean my bathroom multiple times a day, because in his words: “Once a day just isn’t cutting it.” I have depression. FML
Today, I’m mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausted, and I feel like the only person I can talk to who actually listens is my therapist. FML
Today, my parents want nothing to do with me because I can’t stop spending money. Buying junk food is the one thing that makes me happy, and I’ve been to countless therapists and tried every medication. FML
Today, my dad completely disregards my mental health, insists mental disorders are just excuses for laziness in my generation, so even though I have crippling depression, at times he has no sympathy and will mercilessly bully me into “snapping out of it” and to "get a damn job already." FML
Today, thanks to years of verbal abuse from my mother, I can't even watch a ten-minute YouTube video without hearing her voice in my head, telling me to get off my lazy ass and do something. I can't afford therapy. FML
Today, I’m pregnant and have been experiencing the most severe depression of all my life. My long-time therapist asked me to think about whether “this is the right time for me to be in therapy,” then dropped me as a client. FML
Today, my depression has hit a new low. I had to verbally motivate myself for at least an hour in order to wash two plates. I ended up giving up in the middle, and completely shutting down for six hours afterwards. FML
Today, it seems that I can't enjoy one fucking weekend without my mom finding work for me to do to take up my time, and I'm sick of it! FML
Today, as always, my parents wait until I go into the kitchen to drop what they’re doing, rush into the kitchen, and stare at me while I’m making food. They also comment on what I’m eating. I’ve had seven therapists and none of them were able to help me with my embarrassment surrounding food. FML

As a person that has suffered from depression for all of my adult life, I'd like to share one piece of advice. when one is planning to do something that is part of getting the help needed, you cannot let anything stop you. While completing your parents assigned chores is top priority, top top priority is you getting help. In the future, tell them that you'll fulfill their request AFTER you've completed the necessary steps to take care of yourself.

Just go, forget the chores. get yourself looked after first. No punishment for not doing chores is worse than your mental health.

Doing something actually helps with depression.

just go and when you get home get them done, or if you have some time during the day before your appointment then do one or two chores, take a mental health break for 10 min, then do one or two more, then have another break, and finish up if you can before going to therapy, also let your therapist know that you struggle with that many chores! I'm a stay at home mom with ADD and depression so both of those things make it very difficult to stay on task and actually get simple things done. most days I have to mentally prepare myself to get these things done. judt try some different things to help make it easier for you, I know all this shit you constantly have to do completely sucks but it's also part of life as well and you will never NOT have to do it, but you can find balance to make it not so overwhelming leaving you feeling exhausted.

Mental health is just as important as physical. I wish you make them understand it and take care, OP.

don't tell them when your appointments are or lie and tell them a different day all together (tell them it's on Monday when it's really Weds then when they load you up on Monday you'll be free to make your appointment)
