Today, I almost paid off my credit card. Then, a couple of hours later, my air conditioner broke. Found out it’s 12 years-old and leaking Freon. I’m going to have to get a whole new unit, which will cost me $6,500 to $10,050. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, nearing the start of what I was hoping to be a relaxing week off, my air conditioning system died. A replacement system will be in the $7000 range, just the amount I'd finally saved for my dream vacation. FML
Today, my furnace broke down, almost a month after its twenty year warranty expired. It would have been replaced for free. Now I'm going to have to take out a loan to afford the $4,000 replacement. FML
Today, my AC stopped working and I have no money. I live in Phoenix, Arizona. FML
Today, after my washing machine broke yesterday in the middle of a cycle, I went and spent $1400 on a new one. Also today, my dryer started to smoke and almost caught my clothes on fire. There goes another $1000. FML
Today, I spent 600 dollars to have my brakes fixed on my car, they weren't squeaking. I got my car back and now the brakes squeal and my air conditioning won't work. I just spent 600 dollars to break my car even more. FML
Today, my dryer was finally repaired after not working for over a month. I did one load of laundry and my washer stopped working. Another day, another $400+ repair bill. FML
Today, after paying back the money my grandma lent me to fix my car, I stepped outside, only to see my car leaking antifreeze all over the driveway. I had to ask for the money back to fix it again. FML
Today, my car broke down. The good news is I can afford to have it fixed. The bad news is paying for the fix will wipe out my savings, which I need to get certified for a non-minimum-wage job. FML
Today, our boiler broke. Yesterday, it was our fridge. The day before that, the deck collapsed, and a few weeks ago the dishwasher flooded the kitchen. This is after we spent a ton of money to have the house gutted due to a mold problem. We only bought the house a year ago, and have lived in it even less. We need to move. FML
Today, we had our first rainstorm in weeks. Thirty seconds before it started, my window broke in the "down" position from overuse, since last week the air conditioning in my car gave out. Now I have a hot, wet car. FML

credit card debt is Satans curse. it's one of the worst financial traps there is. I'd suggest seriously considering how soon you need an ac unit. I also seriously suggest once this is sorted going over your financials and cutting back until you have at least a 3-6 month emergency fund. it can be hard but it will save you a lot down the road because you won't have to take on those crazy interest payments and it will give you peace of which is priceless in my opinion.

I also seriously suggest once this is sorted going over your financials and cutting back until you have at least a 3-6 month emergency fund. it can be hard but it will save you a lot down the road because you won't have to take on those crazy interest payments and it will give you peace of which is priceless in my opinion.

Check with your electric company and see if they do HVAC loans. It's seriously the better way to go.

$10K for an air conditioner? What is it? An industrial one? A hyper-modern wi-fi capable air conditioner costs no more than $1000, brother. You buy 3 for a large house and it's still $3K.

When our AC went, I was able to get an interest free 5 year loan with the company that put it in.. might want to look and see if anyone offers that option still. Good luck!

You could look into buying window ACs. The one I have was about $150 and it's still working 4 years later.
