Assumptions

Today, in my role as a social worker, I was ordered by the court to take a very pregnant, petite 15-year-old for a prenatal exam. I'm an adult man. As she waddled into her appointment, I turned to see hate-filled stares in the entire waiting room. FML

That sucks. You were doing the right thing in your capacity as a social worker and don’t deserve to be judged like that.

Guess what, you do a job most people couldn't stomach. I have mad respect for that. You put in the work, you help these children. That's what matters. Keep your chin up, you're doing a wonderful job.

Just tell them she is your daughter. Would that help?

I am wondering if next time you could wear and display your badge as that might make it more obvious.

A few years ago I took in a Foster son. Also, I'm a teacher in a school with lots of troubled kids. I didn't fully understand with social workers did, now, I have a whole new respect for them. your job is a difficult one, so just do what you got to do. these kids need to have somebody in their corner. If somebody is you, just keep doing what you're doing.

15? Kids these days...
