Today, I'm ignored and bored so much at my dream job that I've started bringing in my fanfiction to write when no one is around. Which is 80% of the day. I'm training to be a civil engineer. My experience writing fanfiction should take me really far in my chosen career. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I wrote a submission to FML and I realized that I could be doing so much more with my life than this. I mean really, I have real life stuff to deal with, and I don't have the time to be reading these s*itposts, much less making my own. FML
Today, I started dreaming about being at work. I already work more hours a week than I requested, and I live right across from my work and can see it out my window. I can never leave. FML
Today, I realized my job is so boring that I spend most of my time trying to take a dump than actually working. FML
Today, I was taking phone calls. In my dreams. That's just how horrible my job is. FML
Today, I started the internship of my dreams. The company has nothing for me to do, so I sit and stare at the clock. FML
Today, I realized that not only am I still an unpublished author, but I can't even get an FML posted after submitting several in the last year. FML
Today, I finally felt the inspiration to write creatively again. I worked for an hour on a character concept before I realized I'd actually created an imaginary sister/best friend for myself because I’m so lonely. FML
Today, one of my colleagues was asked to rewrite an entire project, which I wrote last week. I'd spent more than 4 days writing it. FML
Today, I found out my boyfriend still writes Twilight fan fiction. FML
Today, I started a new job. The synopsis of my training was, "You're starting a job you're going to hate and you'll be fired for entertaining yourself while waiting for us to give you more work. But you're going to love being here." FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?
Thanks, your FML was submitted, and will appear in the moderation queue soon!

Sounds like you need to ask your boss for another project or two and/or more responsibility....

Put some hot **** scenes in your engineering memos and reports and you'll soon be in the C-suite. Those things are so boring, your smut will give your coworkers a reason to live.

It sounds like it is not actually your dream job...

You get paid, right? So just go with it.

I’m a civil engineer in the US. At least here when you don’t have a full workload and your direct manager/supervisor hasn’t given you enough to do, you are expected to go find work from other project managers to fill in the gaps. If you think they aren’t noticing that you aren’t doing anything, you are wrong. Even if you are salary, someone at the company sees your timesheet and will notice that only 20% of your time is on billable work. It’s your career, you make it what you want it to be. Do you want to be the person who just sits there until someone else hands them something or do you want to be the person who takes charge of their career and is known to go out and help others around them?

This is why DOGE is needed. Tax dollars paying for that person to play at the hobby of writing fan fiction? Really?

Then is it your dream job? Ask for more work.

Instead of writing fanfiction, why not design, or engineer if you will, fan structures? You know, things you'd like to see around your area.

You're able to write fan fiction in the office without getting caught? Kudos to you... you're getting paid to do what you'd do in your free time. It's better than nothing.
