This depends on how it was said. If he said the first statement, and then sat in concentrated silence, THEN said he wants to die, that's not good. But I could see him just thinking about the future, and mentioning he wants to know what it feels like to die. My brain is totally random like that too.

Whys that such a bad thing? He can admit his thoughts and feelings to you. Just because he's curious doesn't mean he's going to do something drastic. I'm curious what death is like just to see if I'm right or wrong about the afterlife. There's no shame in that.
