Today, my boyfriend asked my father for permission to marry me. My father refused, on the basis that I'm the only person in the house with a job, and if I leave he will have to start looking for work. My boyfriend won't marry me without his permission, and my lazy father won't change his mind. FML

if the father had a valid reason for not wanting his daughter to marry him i would say her BF is right in abiding by his decision. however, she seems to be in an abusive and demeaning situation that is unhealthy for both her and her father. in this case, i would say ask for his blessing, not his permission.
