Today, I've been assigned a seat next to a skinny girl who doesn't shut the hell up about how she starves herself and how fat she is. FML

Get her name and give it to the school counselor.

Sounds like her problems are greater than yours!

Uhm. No. Someone talking about an eating disorder or other self image disorder should not just be a 'sit back and observe' thing. Everyday that someone has an eating disorder or other self-image disorder that causes compulsive behavior that is self harming? They are killing themself slowly. If this girl is talking about such a serious issue in such a public manner, she is asking for help with SOMETHING. It may be an eating disorder. It may be something else, like abuse at home, or issues with school work. People who 'cry for attention' do it for a reason- even if that reason is because they've been socialized to think it's only way they can get attention. If no one acts on it to help them, they can't change, they can't get help, and even if you can't personally help them, you should still try to get them help.

Yeah, telling the counsellor won't help. This is coming from someone that used to have an eating disorder. Someone told a counsellor and I just resented everyone more and are less as a big **** you to everyone. Telling people not to do stuff doesn't make them stop.

The point of telling the counselor is that- if they give a damn about laws- they'll inform her parents so that she can be set up with either a psychiatrist, therapist, or psychiatric ward as needed, as well as start an investigation if her parents refuse to allow her treatment. It isn't supposed to be the counselor just saying "stop talking about that, k?" and if that is what your counselor did, they did you a grave disservice and deserve to be fired.

Tell her starving herself won't fix her face

Yes, contribute to someone's already disorder level self-image issues. And then when they die from trying to "fix" themself, have fun explaining to their parents why you decided to be an asshole instead of being a decent human being. You are obviously the kind of person that tells a suicidal person to jump.

that is a horrible thing to say! it's clear that the girl needs professional help, how could you think it was okay to say that?

Sounds like her problems are greater than yours!

She obviously have an eating disorder. If this is in school or something like that, try to speak with a teacher or counselor. I understand that this is a bit annoying for you, but she needs help.

Sounds like you should stop complaining try to get that girl help

I'm assuming you're in school, in which case go to the guidance counselor. tell them what the girl said. judging from personal experience the girl is probably looking for some kind of attention. most people suffering from some kind of disorder wouldn't just openly say things like that to just anyone unless they're asking for help, and if that's the case they'd go to someone they know fairly well, or a teacher or counselor, because people who are actually suffering from any kind of disorder don't romantasize it, they feel alienated and ashamed for being 'different'.

As someone who has an anorexia, don't say "most people" and generalize what people with a certain mental illness should/should not do

what the hell are you complaining for? Your not the one who needs help.

I forgot to include this but I am recovering from anorexia, so yeah...
