Today, I called off work saying my Great Grandmother died. A co-worker texted me later asking where and when the funeral was. I made up a lie and said some random funeral home and date. My co-workers sent flowers to the funeral home for condolences. The flowers were returned. FML

Nice try
Today, I told my boss that my grandma died to get a day off work, but then my grandma showed up at the office looking for me because she wanted to go shopping. FML
Today, I texted a friend offering my condolences over the death of his grandfather. He hadn't been told his grandfather had died yet. FML
Today, I was bored out of my mind at work. I told my coworker he was lucky to be leaving early. I forgot the reason of his early departure was to go to his grandfather's funeral. FML
Bad employee
Today, I ran into my boss when I was at the beach. He told me he was sorry for my loss. I asked him, "What loss?" Then I remembered I’d lied about taking time off under the pretense of bereavement of my grandmother passing away. FML
Stop doing this
Today, my sister called me at work and told me our elderly mom had passed away. I dropped everything and rushed home, to find out she was fine, and that my sister was just pranking me. When I explained this to my boss, he accused me of lying to get out of work, and I was fired. FML
Today, I went into work and noticed one of my fellow colleagues had a large bunch of flowers on her desk. As soon as I saw her, I immediately said, "Happy Birthday!" Everyone went quiet. It wasn't her birthday; her father had died. FML
Today, I asked my boss for a few days off next week, because my grandmother passed away yesterday and I'll need to travel to attend the funeral. His response: "She's dead, you're not. You want time off, then quit." FML
Good grief
Today, my boss called me a liar and untrustworthy. Why? Yesterday I went home to grieve, after finding out my father figure is in hospice, but because he's just in hospice and not actually dead yet, that somehow means I lied about his death to get a day off work. What? FML
Tl; dr
Today, I e-mailed the online instructor for my job, telling her that I had fallen behind in my work due to my grandmother's passing and the subsequent funeral arrangements, but that I would catch up this week. Her reply? "OK. Hope your grandmother gets better soon." FML
Today, I came in to work looking very tan. I took Friday off to go to a friend's funeral, which was outdoors, and I tan very easily. Now my boss and everyone else thinks I lied about my friend's death to get off work on a Friday. FML

Never lie about some relative dying just to get away from something.

I can't believe you actually posted this as an fml. it's more "look at me, I'm ******* retarded and have no soul" op you're a dipshit. what kind of person uses a family members "death" to get out of something? people like you make me sick. I didn't even take time off school when my grandma died. here's a thought. maybe you should just go dig a hole and die in it. the world would be much better off without people like you in it. >.< and the fact that you chose your author name to be whatever01 GAH! I don't even know you and I hate you and want to kick your ass. lying, insensitive piece of shit.

NEVER lie about a family member dying asshole. but if you did have to you should've said the funeral was in another state and you didn't know the name yet because a relative was gonna drive you or something. gosh you're dumb

There are a million different excuses to make instead of a death in the family or a sickness or family emergency... Why would you ever put that karma on yourself? And next time, when something does happen, you might not be able to get off work because it could seem like a lie. Think first.
