Ok, on the fence regarding this one. Let's face it, even if you hand back the wallet, you're hoping for SOMETHING. I found a purse a couple of years back at a bus stop, and I'll admit, my first thought was "Oh, I wonder if there's any money in it," thinking of the rule where if you hand it into the police and no-one comes forward to claim it within a certain amount of time, it's yours. Then I saw the photo and ID for Sister ****** ******. Reaction? "Oh crap, I just thought about ripping off a nun!" I handed it in.
kindness rarely gets rewarded. next thing you know you'll be driving later and do something to your car that costs your $300 to fix.
Now, you have experienced pure virtue and altruism. They suck, don't they? Next time, pocket the cash and mail the rest back to the loser.
altruism |ˈaltroōˌizəm| noun the belief in or practice of disinterested and selfless concern for the well-being of others : some may choose to work with vulnerable elderly people out of altruism. That is exactly what altruism is, you dumb ****! Get your facts straight before you try to bust me, you asshole.
LOL You should have kept the wallet
u could have used some of that money for pay for gas or snacks or smthn !!!!!
YDI for expecting a reward.
Better (and safer) to turn it into the nearest police station. They'll take care of contacting the owner who will then have to pick it up at the station. If the owner doesn't come in to claim it within a given amount of time (don't know how long this is; it may vary from location to location), it belongs to the finder. Yeah, it might not have been the smartest idea to head off into the unknown to return something to a total stranger. He might have accused you of taking some of the money or put you in another bad situation.

Drug money. But you don't do something for the reward, you do it because you feel it's right. YDI.
Holy crap entitled much? Instead of doing something for a reward, why don't you do it because it's the right thing to do? And how is he supposed to know that you drove for 40 minutes? What I would've done is turn it in to the police, or if I found it in the store, turned it in to the store manager, rather than driving for 40 minutes and then expecting a reward for not stealing it. It's ridiculous how people expect to be rewarded for not doing the wrong thing. Plus, how do you know you returned it to the right person? It had an address written inside? That could've been the address of a friend's house, or a house someone needed to make a delivery to. Maybe you just gave the wallet to a stranger who decided to pretend it was his to keep the money.
