Man or woman?

Today, mum woke me up before seven in the morning on a Saturday so I could open my birthday gifts. I'm an insomniac and I had just fallen asleep. I wasn't even awake yet and she yelled at me to be more enthusiastic. FML

I agree, your life sucks (16663) - you totally deserved it (2032)

How is this an FML?

Happy birthday, and enjoy your presents.

Is this a serious question? OP values sleep and it was disrupted in the name of a birthday, where you're supposed to be in charge. OP's mom is so busy making sure OP "has fun" that she never asked what OP would actually really like to do.

#4 - On 10/31/2009 at 5:12pm by ZuRG

I would punched my mom in the face if i had that problem

#65 - On 11/01/2009 at 7:42pm by Mirandals

I agree the yelling part is a bit nasty. She shouldnt have done that though anybody can easily get hurt if their efforts are taken (or apprear to be taken) for granted.

#67 - On 11/02/2009 at 1:33am by wtfwts

My mom pulled that shit, too. Completely invade your space, disrupt your routine, then you get an earful of "It's your birthday, BE HAPPY!"

#2 - On 10/31/2009 at 5:09pm by ZuRG

WELL GET UP AND OPEN YOUR PRESENTS!!!! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???!!!........... FYL

You're prob not even an insomniac, you just go to bed hella late. Get better sleeping habits. YDI.

#5 - On 10/31/2009 at 5:15pm by schmoop

Seriously?
I have suffered from insomnia after a traumatic event in my life time, it's a horrible condition and believe be, is not something that you should dismiss like that.

#8 - On 10/31/2009 at 5:20pm by freylero

FML is a wonderful place for sympathy.

Oh, boo-hoo. He has a point, half the people who claim to be 'insomniacs' just go to bed way too late. You don't need to get so offended. And this is coming from someone who does have a hard time getting to sleep, btw.

OP: Your life is not fucked. Take the time to open your presents for 10 bloody minutes, say thank you, and go back to sleep. Stop whining, you ungrateful brat.

#15 - On 10/31/2009 at 5:43pm by xkat356

if OP could go to sleep at will, she wouldn't be an insomniac.

#17 - On 10/31/2009 at 5:49pm by ZuRG

yes, I'm sure her mother would be thrilled with that response. *rip* *rip* *rip* kthxbai, I'm going to bed.

#23 - On 10/31/2009 at 6:18pm by monkey314159

Good point. But you dont know that. I've actually been diagnosed with insomnia. You cant assume OP is lying just because of a few people who self-diagnose.

OP, appreciate that your mom is up at 7 AM for you and all perky. My mom does it too, but it's better than her forgetting! Maybe if you had talked to her about how tired you were, she would have left you alone. She seems like she genuinely cares.

#28 - On 10/31/2009 at 6:30pm by katieisfantab

I agree with schmoop. A couple of teenagers drink a Monster (thinking it makes them totally badass) and don't sleep, therefore allowing them the grand opportunity of diagnosing themselves with insomnia. Now, I'm not saying that this is always the case. I'm not ignorant enough to deny the reality of actual insomnia. It just seems that more often that not, it's just tiny little immature teenagers staying up later than they have to.

#66 - On 11/01/2009 at 8:26pm by giganticbrain

Well...happy birthday?

Suck it up and show some enthusiasm for your gifts for five goddam minutes.

Then you can sleep the rest of the day you fat, lazy slug. Oh, yeah, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

i really want to slap you.

moreso than the OP, which is saying something.

#9 - On 10/31/2009 at 5:21pm by K7C

That would be the best present of all from an overbearing mother.

In a way, you didn't deserve it because I don't know why someone as bratty as you would deserve any presents on their birthday D:

#18 - On 10/31/2009 at 5:54pm by KiddNYC10

I feel ya OP I'm an insomniac to and my ma wakes me up at 730 and I'll have fallen asleep at 630 and she won't let me go back to sleep. it effing bites.

#20 - On 10/31/2009 at 6:04pm by jw90

OP, I truly do feel you. I take quite natrual, mild sleeping pills to be able to sleep "normally", prescribed by my doctor. Maybe that could help you. Either way, FYL.

#21 - On 10/31/2009 at 6:06pm by Cameo

but on the other hand feel grate you get presents for your birthday.

#22 - On 10/31/2009 at 6:06pm by jw90

For all the people who are calling the OP ungrateful or a bitch and that she can just go to sleep when she's done opening presents...you do realize that she actually cannot.
That what insomnia is, lacking the ability to fall asleep just because one wants to.

This was the OP's birthday, that means she should have the right to do what she wants on this day, even if it is sleeping(Something that would be precious to an actual insomniac).

Of course since I'm guessing most of you don't actually understand what the Op's going through, you'll just idiotically insult her throughout saying she should be grateful.

#24 - On 10/31/2009 at 6:23pm by Smarty_

you done?

#38 - On 10/31/2009 at 8:16pm by splydoms

Exactly. I can't believe so many commenters have no sympathy for the OP.

#40 - On 10/31/2009 at 8:26pm by coffee_addict7

Thank you #24.

You can't just "go back to bed" when you have insomnia. And if you've just gotten to bed (after what could have even been a few days) being woken up, no matter the mother's good intentions, is probably the worst thing that could happen.

FYL OP. Happy belated birthday, though. :/

Would you have been happier if your mom forgot your birthday?

#27 - On 10/31/2009 at 6:24pm by V_GEHTS

A lot of people think they are insomniacs when they actually aren't.

#29 - On 10/31/2009 at 6:58pm by nediov

And you have no idea whether or not the OP is one of them so there's no reason to be rude and skeptical about this.

#33 - On 10/31/2009 at 7:21pm by Smarty_

my dad arrived back from overseas at about 6am on my 18th birthday. i took am an insomniac and as much as i love and had missed my dad, i've had years to see him since and so did not get up early to go to the air port and see him arrive and slept until a reasonable time before waking and going as seeing him.
I see it as, it's my birthday, and it should be a good day that i don't spend sleep deprived and feeling ill and headachy like i do when i don't get enough sleep.

#30 - On 10/31/2009 at 7:01pm by agamid

That sucks. :(

#36 - On 10/31/2009 at 7:55pm by KiddNYC10

I like how you're American and used "mum".

No sarcasm. :D

#37 - On 10/31/2009 at 8:04pm by Ohnothingreally

There's a thing called an immigrant, it means a person who was born in one country but moved to another sometime in their life to live. Yeah. The OP isn't a bitch, yeah people self diagnose a lot these days then yell at me when I ask if they ever got diagnosed by an actual doctor...but maybe she is an insomniac and hasn't slept in 3 days, so she values her sleep more then her mom waking her up loudly at 7 in the morning right after she finally fell asleep. Then she gets guilted into having to act excited when she probably won't get to sleep for another 2 days.

#45 - On 10/31/2009 at 9:55pm by Tarynkd

Another hypochondriac.
In America everyone has the flu left and right, insomniac, migrane etc etc the list goes on.
Stop your self-diagnostics people!

#39 - On 10/31/2009 at 8:23pm by enlitenbank

#42 - On 10/31/2009 at 8:52pm by mercyFML

#43 - On 10/31/2009 at 8:57pm by azn_whiz

this is not an FML situation.

Maybe if your mom was like "oh yeah and the dog died last night", then it would be FML. but this? nah.

#44 - On 10/31/2009 at 9:23pm by vermillionlove

if your mom knows you're insomniac then she is an ass and FYL. But I'm guessing that she doesn't; which means you have bad sleeping habits and act like a little bitch, so YDI.

#48 - On 11/01/2009 at 12:24am by scateice

Get some sleeping pills, maybe that will help.

#49 - On 11/01/2009 at 12:26am by jane99

The trouble with sleeping pills is the way they work is by almost knocking you out, not aiding you to get the required amount of sleep and making wake up feeling worse than you would have with a sleepless night. Any positive effects you feel from them are merely a placebo.

#53 - On 11/01/2009 at 3:48am by freylero

Freylero, have you ever taken a sleeping pill? There are a hundred different kinds and that's not how any of them work. What you described IS how alcohol works, though.

#60 - On 11/01/2009 at 12:17pm by kitkatkelly

I have, and I know very well how they work.

#61 - On 11/01/2009 at 12:36pm by freylero

smoke a little weed before you go to bed if you live in cali you can get a license for it and that will put you asleep in no time.

Don't worry. When you hit about 25 you'll start sleeping. I'm going to go ahead and guess you're not actually an insomniac, you're just a teenager.

#57 - On 11/01/2009 at 10:15am by GriefBacon

I hit 25, I still can't sleep.

#58 - On 11/01/2009 at 11:23am by freylero

I'm an insomniac too and I always fall asleep at 7am! Weird.

#59 - On 11/01/2009 at 12:14pm by kitkatkelly

People in Pennsylvania say Mum?

#63 - On 11/01/2009 at 2:39pm by HarrietPotter

First of all, your mother is being just that. If she doesn't know about your sleeping problems, try telling her. If she does, try telling her again. Some mothers tend to block out their child's problems. Also, if she keeps it up, lock your door and hang a note on it asking for her to let you sleep.

Having a weird sleeping pattern for years and the occasional night where sleep just becomes more distant the more you yearn for it, I can fully agree with # 51. Just smoke a little bit, it will softly put you to sleep without knocking you out, and give you nice dreams. ^_^

#64 - On 11/01/2009 at 3:51pm by KapiTezuka

The ironic part? The presents were a nice pillow, some relaxing CD's, and a Do Not Disturb sign.

#68 - On 11/02/2009 at 3:05am by Ninjaface

How sad. I get presents for my birthday.

I'm sure you'd never hear a starving child in India complain about this bullsh*t.
