(0)Has anyone thought of the fact while the OP may not be ugly, per se, she might be that one friend that everyone has that is a total frump who doesn't take care of herself, but her friends love her despite that? You know the kind of girl I'm talking about - no makeup, possibly bad skin, frizzy, unstyled hair, and cheap, boring clothes... every day, no matter what the occasion. There is nothing more annoying than a girl who has the potential to look halfway decent, but simply doesn't bother, and therefore looks like shit all the time. Maybe the OP's friends used to try to help her out in the looks/grooming department, but finally gave up. Is it too much to ask for everyone in your wedding party to look their absolute best? I, personally, don't think so. Maybe the bride was sure that even if she made the OP promise to clean up for her wedding day, there would still be a chance that she would show up looking like a frump and ruin all the wedding photos by drawing attention to herself. I think that's a fairly plausible explanation. Call me shallow all you want, but I certainly wouldn't want such a thing to happen to me on my wedding day!

You can't afford to sit for an hour in front of a mirror if you, say, have a huge family to take care of. And even if she just doesn't care about her appearance and is lazy, her "friend" could of at least been more tactful. There are hair products that cost from $2-5, and for most people, that works better than nothing. There is also a difference between cheap (ie, cheaply made, low quality) and inexpensive clothes. This has absolutely nothing to do with money, and everything to do with putting a (very very small) effort into how you present yourself to the world. That's like saying that it's okay to be fat because "some people can't afford to eat fruits and vegetables, so they have to eat off McDonald's dollar menu."
I agree though, the bride definitely could/should have been more tactful. Even in this case, I don't think it's okay to call your friends ugly. I was just trying to show that in some cases, maybe the bride's actions could be a little justified.
