That's just cold-hearted....
thats why you never give a woman the option...
Was it a 1TB external HD? :D
#3 - On 03/28/2009 at 10:48am by byork
You can never have too much storage space, are you still with her?
I second #3 a 1 TB would be pretty tits.
Also, I laughed at your execution of the proposal. Sorry, man.
Geek girl! You're lucky man, stop whining!
#6 - On 03/28/2009 at 10:54am by z_vet
why the hell wouldn't you JUST get her the ring if she already had an external HD???
Well....I mean.... This is gonna be harsh, but I'd be pretty disappointed if my boyfriend proposed to me like that. It's supposed to be romantic, you know? This just doesn't ...sparkle?... enough. I don't know.
Maybe she was hitting the refresh key. Try again later?
Huh. You should've proposed properly, though.
agree with # 7.
If she already had an external HD then why did u get her one ?
If u would've just gotten her the ring then she wouldnt have to choose.
lol.
If a woman can pick her presents then why can't she pick her men? Shoulda went with just the ring.
yea thats noo way to propose. maybe she thought it was a promise ring and not an engagement ring? u never know..
Can't you tell that she just wants more hard drives from you?
External HDD, or a ring? Propose to her properly you fool.
Should've given her the HDD, then taken her out for a romantic meal and proposed to her.
It could have been a hint though, sure you're good enough in the sack?
why would you give your gf an engagement ring for her birthday?
Are you sure she realized it was a proposal? Maybe she just thought you were offering her jewelry as a gift, and didn't really want it...
Making her choose is stupid...
it could make her think that your always going to ask her to make stupid sacrifices.
I'd have chosen the hard drive too...
you shouldnt make her choose like that.
You didn't really imply that it was an engagement ring sooo for all she knows you're telling her to choose between a hard drive or probably an ugly 50 year old ring..I mean I'd choose neither like wtf? A harddrive? She's your girlfriend, not your sister
why didn't you just give her both?? maybe she didn't even realize it was a proposal.
What a weird way to propose. It's very ambiguous, agree with #21 that she may not have even known.
having a girlfriend who picks an external hard disk over a ring is just awesome. I doubt my girlfriend would even know what a hard disk is.
That was cold-hearted,
But she possibly didn't even realize it was a proposal.
You should have just given her both-- or not even given her an option.
Oh, sad day.
why did you even offer it with a hard drive? it doesnt even make sense, no wonder she didnt understand
i would be so pissed if you tried to propose on my birthday. it's like trying to get two holidays over with in the same day because you don't want to take the effort to create a special day for her. holler back i would chose the hard drive too.
DONT GIVE A CHOICE LOL.
That's like me being like
Hey baby, 1 million dollars or me. And have 1 million cash in my hand .. Lol.
Not gonna lie, I'd do the same thing.
A) That's a really shitty way to propose. I'd be wondering if you were worth staying with for the rest of my life if you did something so stupid.
B) If you're giving a CHOICE between something useful like a hard drive and a ring you didn't even buy, if she makes the CHOICE for the first one, it's your own fault. Maybe proposing with Grandma's ring would work if you actually proposed romantically and along with those sentiments, said how the ring was your grandmother's.
C) If she already had a hard drive, then why the hell would you buy her another one? If she took it and you found that dumb because she has one, then realize that you're just as dumb for buying one when she has one.
Pretty much, you did it all wrong. You deserve it.
And she deserves better. :(
what a horrible combination. who does that?
You didn't even state HERE that you were proposing - simply that you were offering her your grandmother's ring as a birthday present. Try being a little more confident and forward and maybe she'll find you more useful than a hard drive.
#30 - On 03/28/2009 at 12:03pm by Lauriebug
You didn't even say "will you marry me"..?
I agree with most of the comments here, I would have said no to my boyfriend if he involved any sort of computer hardware in the proposal. Instead he had the sense to surprise me by coming home on Christmas and proposing beneath a bridge on a hiking trail.
Do you see the difference?
Rings are symbolic. Hard drives are useful.
lol @ #8
Best regards,
S

Why the hell would you give your girlfriend something that belongs to your grandmother? You're supposed to keep that ring for yourself.
What if she suddenly decides to break up with you, are you just gonna have to go and say: "I'd like my grandma's engagement ring back please"
Don't be dumb, seriously man. Have some respect for your family's precious possessions
If it was me, I'd have felt really bad because I would want the harddrive :( I don't like jewelry. But if I wanted to say yes, it would still be unsatisfying because I wouldn't get the damn HD.
:(
#34: A lot of men propose to their girlfriends using mothers or grandmothers engagement rings. It has more sentimental value ... I would actually be thrilled if my boyfriend proposed with his mother's ring, because it's beautiful and wouldn't cost him a dime.
#28 said everything I wanted to say
#38 - On 03/28/2009 at 12:29pm by thisismyname
What the hell kind of proposal is that???
Also agree with 36. And to answer your question 34, yes, you ask for the ring back if you split. A girl would have to be a total cunt to ever keep any engagement ring if she called it off.
#40 - On 03/28/2009 at 12:33pm by thisismyname
Why would you even propose like that.... its like you thought of the least romantic way possible thought about it and were like "yeah..... thats so stupid it just might work....."
But if you insist on doing it idiotically again may I suggest doing it Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade style....
What would girls do with an external hard drive anyway?
Just wondering...
the best gift I ever received from a boyfriend was an external harddrive.
#43 - On 03/28/2009 at 12:54pm by dnbt
why would you get her an external hard drive if she already has one........
#44 - On 03/28/2009 at 12:56pm by kjb
Why not give her both, duh?
#42 I'm a girl...I own an external hard drive...and guess what...I even use it! o.O *lol*
#46 - On 03/28/2009 at 1:07pm by Puolukka
Your girlfriend is smart. She knows you'll offer the ring again, but the hard drive was probably a take-it-or-lose-it deal.
So now she gets the hard drive AND you'll offer her the ring again later AND she can still choose whether or not she wants the ring.
If you marry her, just be aware she's a lot smarter than you.
wait if you were going to propose, why did you offer her a fucking external drive and make her pick? wth?
maybe she thinks your gonna propose properly ?
you should have proposed AND given her the external hard drive!! its her birthday..i mean..a wedding is nice..but still!!!
#50 - On 03/28/2009 at 1:18pm by secret
#16 is right.
its a crappy proposal lmaooo.
like honestly it makes no sense.
#47 is also right. that's what i was thinking. its a win-win for her.
you just didnt get it...
#42 You have to be shitting me... anyone who does film uses an external harddrive pretty much every day, and a lot of girls do film, including me. Do you think guys are the only people who know how to use computers?
I have to agree with the previous commenters, I mean it's a stupid way to propose first of all. Second of all, why would you do it on her birthday? You want a special date for the engagement. Something more romantic. Why would you even think about doing it the way that you did? Fail.
#6 i agree. she is awesome. and wtf why didn't you give her both?
That sucks. But maybe she just thought that your grandmother's ring is ugly.
Doesn't seem like you put too much thought into her present. You got her a used ring and a hard drive she already has. Haha.
I would've taken the hard drive too
aww that sucks im sorry...i would have def took the ring that was kind cute...and the ring is an antique and has family value
#57 - On 03/28/2009 at 2:24pm by fingers_girl
Who says she wants to marry you? You sound like a whiny douche.
Why not give her both?
Asshole.
Next time try a little romance with the next one Romeo. Just tossing out a ring and a hard drive is NO way to propose. I would have taken the hard drive too.
Heh, the way of proposal was really sucky - did she realize you were proposing? Maybe she didn't like the ring...
Being a geek girl if a guy offered me to pick between hardware and jewelry, unless the jewelry was really, REALLY awesome or the hardware was suckier than the stuff I have already, I'd pick the hardware in a heartbeat. You sure she just isn't a (closet) computer geek? :D
#61 - On 03/28/2009 at 2:35pm by no_one
That was not a bad way to propose! You thought it out and im sure you know her well so I'm hoping ya'll are both computer lovers? Anyway, Im sorry she was such a jerk about it. Hope it all works out.
Engagement ring on her BIRTHDAY?! YDI!!
Hell, if my girlfriend picked a hard drive over a ring, I'd be fairly certain that she is "the one".
But YDI for having a shitty proposal.
OHHH YOOO
i smell a rejection
what a bitch .
#66 - On 03/28/2009 at 3:48pm by dammn
That sucks so bad, man, but that was also a really bad proposal. Why make her pick between two?
#68 - On 03/28/2009 at 4:54pm by justjayit
Yeah, you're an idiot. 1) She might not have known it was an engagement ring, even if you "look deeply into her eyes"
2) Your grandma's taste may not be hers.
3) You're a coward for not just asking her to marry you. Terrible proposal.
4) One can never have too much space.
5) It's a hard drive!
6) She's awesome. Why is she with you?
you are a tool. im no girl, but im sure that she wouldve expected to get both. and if not, then im sure the opportunity to get the ring again will come up.
why would you tell her to choose? lol, douche.
#7, agreed. Kind of a strange way to propose?
I'd take the external hard drive as well.
What a way to propose.
#76 - On 03/28/2009 at 6:54pm by Frlf
yeah if my boyfriend proposed like that id feel so let down
i mean choice between engagement and hard drive? wtf?
OMG GIRLS ON COMPUTERS? WHAT?! AND OWNING EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES?!
As a female graphic design major, I would personally like to kick you in the balls, #42.
#78 - On 03/28/2009 at 6:58pm by jnic
Lamest. Proposal. EVER.
If you really care about her, you could've done much better.
#42 here.
@#52 & #78
not implying that girls don't know how to use computers, just that you can easily guess what guys would typically use an external hard drive for.
who the fuck proposes like that?
Sorry man, but that's the worst proposal I've ever heard of.
Totally lame proposal, dude. I might have done the same thing, even if I had wanted to marry the guy. Also, why did you make the other option something she already had? Sounds like you were trying pretty hard to manipulate her into choosing the ring. Maybe she saw through it.
oooo... ouch!!! tht sucks so much!!! but that is really funny
she'd rather play with the hard drive ;)
#85 - On 03/29/2009 at 1:37am by kidfromTO
Oh....you were proposing? yeah see I'm a chick and I didn't get that. I was like....Who buys their bitch a hard drive?
Why would you make her choose? YDI
That's so dumb, if you wanted to propose to her you should've just gotten down on your knee and given her the ring.
Why get her an external hard drive and give her the choice?!
Dude, cmon, it's an external hard drive? Who *wouldn't* want one.
Deserved, what kind of way to propose is that?
lesson learned? don't propose that way. i agree with #90 and the other people.
makes sense to me! :P hard drives are far more usefull, maybe she is intouch with her inner man :P
She passed the test. She's the kind of woman that says "We've got work to do! This fence isn't going to whitewash itself!" Barring a shitty personality or shitty habits, I'd say you've got quite the catch. So, stop whining and enjoy it.
what kinda way is that to propose? you definitely deserved that one, dude.
Dump her and take back the external harddrive =D But that was a wierd way to propose..
If you knew she already had an external HD, why would you buy her another one? Why not just give her the ring? Hell, both!
You sure she just wasn't joking? Maybe she accepted the external hard drive as the proposal. I'd probably do the same thing.
No. This is good. You found out the truth. No you can dump her and get on with your life. Be glad she didn't take your family's ring and then let you know.
@ # 99:
she A. probably didnt know it was his Grandma's engagement ring. b. probably thinks he's a lame ass boyfriend for buying her a birthday present that you KNOW she already has. C. he didnt propose, he just "looked deeply in to her eyes" and said "pick the HD or this ring". usually when people propose, or give a promise ring, they talk about it and say "hey, this ring is really important to me, i'd like you to have it..." or "will you marry me?" at the very least. this guy is really clueless, so yes your life is fucked in that way. Best of luck next time. maybe you should consult your friends before you do something idiotic and lose that girl.
#100 - On 03/30/2009 at 6:36pm by saywhut05
cold hearted bitch. women can be really heartless and cruel. I am so sorry that happened. There are plenty of other fish in the sea
Gotta love a geek girl! You should have inscribed "Will you marry me?" on the HD. Or like, tied it to the end of a stick and lead her down the aisle with it.
That's not a shitty way to propose. It's called being creative. She either really doesn't want to be engaged just yet, or she's a dumbass. Either way, that sucks.
dude you got a geek for a girlfriend
that's kinda cool :)
rewrite: Today my bf of _ years gave me an engagement ring, but he then made me choose between it and a external Hard Drive for no particular reason. I was so pissed off that i chose the HD. FML
Sorry, man, but that's not a proposal. That's giving your girlfriend a choice between a shiny electronic and a shiny piece of jewelry. Lots of us ladies would pick the electronic. And did you even tell her that was your grandma's engagement ring? Just learn from this experience and try again. :)
Maybe she didn't know it was an engagement ring? Be happy that she's more practical than materialistic!
Was that your proposal? She made the right choice!
Omg what a lame proposal.
I wouldn't even realize it was a proposal if my bf would do that for me...
o.O
Aw thats so sad... that was cute... well if you both were like computer nerds i guess i could understand the whole hard drive thing (but not really) she should ave picked the ring in either case. If she wasnt joing, give her time? but really, shes not "the one". You'll know when youve found her, she wouldnt even hesitate to say the ring. Good luck!
Who can turn down an external hard drive! I mean come on they're the one thing in life someone needs two of!
FYL, of course.
that's the fucking lamest proposal in the world
I don't blame her for her choice
I think he knew she had an external hard drive already, and he was expecting her to pick the ring, but WHY would he do it anyways?!
And some girls would pick an external hard drive anyways.
Rewrite FTW.
is that how you think proposals are done? but still, fyl. maybe she just wasnt ready yet? :)
#114 - On 06/14/2009 at 7:20am by kmckay92
sounds like YOU need a little backup!!! get it?
LMFAO!! you can never have TOO much memory!! JK I hope you have better luck with you next girlfriend!! Smile Jesus loves you =)
sudve given her an option of a diamond neckalace or a diamong ring damn u give her an empty metal box tht she already has maybe next time u shud think a little
#118 - On 07/11/2009 at 3:45am by FHD
come on! Okey, fyl, but that was like, the worst proposal ever ! come on!
maybe she knew you wanted to have the hard drive. ahhhh plan never work :( back to the drawing board
I would have done the same. Unless my girlfriend was proposing, then I would choose the ring.
All of this technological innuendo, Imma just put this here:
Stick your Techno-Stick in her Cyber-Hole.
What the hell kind of a way is that to propose I would have said no suppose she wanted both
