Today, it was my wedding day. When my soon-to-be-husband was saying his vows, he didn't say my name. He said his mother's. FML

Nerves make us do stupid things. I completely forgot my vows in the heat of the moment. We still laugh about it 22 years later.

If I were in that situation, I'd probably just laugh uncontrollably for a few minutes, and then forget about it...

I agree, he was obviously nervous.

This should be the husband's FML. I'd be red as a tomato with embarrassment..

Well, look at it this way OP, at least he didn't say your sisters name!

Inheritance 10

Do you have to do vows? I'm curious.

54- I suppose you don't have to...it's just traditional that you do.

54, You don't have to do vows, no. That may turn out badly though because if they don't vow to be each other's one and only, if one of them cheats they could say, "hey it wasn't in the vows."

coughyochick 7

65- that has to be the worst reasoning I have ever heard/read

Inheritance 10

Ok thanks haha I'll be sure to do my vows :p

twisted_cherub 14

You don't have to do vows, but the whole point is a ceremony of commitment to one another. If there are no vows, what exactly are you committing to do? You can write your own to say whatever you want, but no vows leaves a ceremony that goes, "We're gathered here to witness the marriage between ____ & ____. Do you ____ want to marry him? .... Do you ____ want to marry her? .... Exchange rings. I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride." No promises; no commitment; why get married at all?

Inheritance 10

I was just confused if you had to write your own or not but I now know thanks

He probably used his dads vows this isn't a big deal other than he is a slacker

I mean marriage is a scary thing. I don't blame him at all.

I feel sorry for whoever marries you

Yes, because a slip of the tongue immediately warrants an end to the relationship.

PeeNaught 3

Sometimes yes, it does, judge not lest YE be judged. It's funny you react like I'm the only one it bothers...it obviously bothered OP or it wouldn't be posted...OP obviously married too big a Momma's boy...My dads name would not be the first name outta my mouth on my wedding day in place of my husband to be...let the flaming continue...

YakuzaxGeneralz 9

Actually I can't say it. I have a lisp, asshole.

9 - that's because you'd need to know his name in order for it to slip your tongue...

PeeNaught 3

You all are right, she should totally be excited too be married to a guy who had his mother on his mind during said vows on such an important vacation...besides people obviously want to flame an opinion...but then society is more close minded then ever...no surprise there...

That's a bit harsh considering he was probably extremely nervous I feel sorry for who ever you marry, considering you seem to have zero tolerance for mistakes

PeeNaught 3

Occasion...not vacation...speaking of slips...err damn auto correct

PeeNaught 3

Some mistakes are too big to tolerate...

I actually feel bad for saying that ... Sorry

PeeNaught 3

My apologies OP, maybe it was slightly harsh, I just really would hate to see a new fml in two months about something going down with your marriage already because you got hurt...maybe it was an honest mistake on his end, if so, life goes on, I wish a happy future to you both...

PeeNaught- I guess you are perfect in all of your ways for you completely rule out the mess of nerves that comes with a wedding, right? Honestly, it's not like he screamed the mom's name during sex. You're a fool.

Whoa, wait... We are the closed-minded ones here? You want to get rid of someone for being nervous and saying his mothers name, when he could have easily been nervous and thinking about some piece of advice she gave him beforehand to make him feel better? And THEN, you quote the bible, yet you're the one who immediately judged OP's relationship without a second thought as to possible reasons why he could have slipped. Immediately JUDGING he is a momma's boy. I've got nothing against people who love their religion, but at least don't be so obviously closed-minded about someone else of you're going to use it against us.

LOL anyone on this comment that hasn't already, read PeeNaught's About Me. It just seems to fit her comments to a tee.

Yeah, but if he does, then she has grounds for another FML.

PeeNaught 3

You all may think I'm wrong, but yet there are numerous votes calling me a mistake...my life...and yet that's okay? No one has to agree with me, but also no one has the right to call me a mistake...basically saying i shouldn't be alive....yet , I'm wrong...for the record, I've been married and was nervous as hell and still wouldn't have made the mistake of calling my husband by my dads name...luckily your opinions don't matter...

PeeNaught 3

Sweet, 100 negative votes, my journey in this thread complete, I'll now exit...later...ha maybe this comment will get a million times that...bye now...

PeeNaught just stop trying.

107, why? I would make a terrible Lawyer... I would hear out their case, and most times decide; "seriously? You sold drugs and now you come whining to me when you're caught with them in your car, while under the influence??? YDI. That'll be $500." I probably wouldn't make any money..

Finnick_fml 12

OP, it's your wedding day! This isn't an FML, he was nervous and made a mistake. Not everyone can easily handle a few dozen people watching them while they speak. There's such pressure to be perfect, some people crack under it. Lighten up!

True but out of all the names he's picks his mothers come on its creepy . When my mate got married she only mixed up her husbands name by saying his middle name first then his name .

Hi, my names PeeNaught and I'm a terrible attempt at a troll.

ImmaB3AST 7

You would think after excessive negative comments he would move on.

Fmlsea, I'd rather my husband/partner say a parental figures name, rather than some woman I don't even know. A slip is very possible, they talk to that person a lot, have an important issue on their mind involving that person... A slip here or there with a name of someone you mutually know and have no worries about, is better than a slip of some random person you had no idea existed within your significant others life.

I feel left out for missing this but god damn peenaught is stupid...

If I were in that situation, I'd probably just laugh uncontrollably for a few minutes, and then forget about it...

I'd laugh but I'd never forget. That's something to remember. :D

Fair point, well made. Besides, it's not as if anyone present would let me forget, this hypothetical situation... :P

Pinkpoogle 3

Don't worry OP, nerves get to even the best of us. Now you have a special, and comic way to remember your wedding forever and how special and unique it was :)

Haha, poor guy! He must have been really nervous.

Could have been worse. Could have been like Ross and said Rachael! :P

FMLshark 12

"I, Ross, take thee Rachael--.. Emily, I meant Emily!"

The first thing I thought when I saw this fml! Lol

59 - same!! Best episode ever.

15 -- I had something witty to say, but was distracted by the adorable-ness of your profile pic.

64 - haha yes my daughter gets a lot of that :) thanks!!

mayaismagic 1

A boy's best friend is his mother :P Jk, don't worry about it too much. It's the same thing as calling a teacher or someone "mom". It's just nerves.

My wedding was one of the most nerve-wracking days of my life. So many potential problems - potentially drunk relatives dancing on tables, forgetting the ring, forgetting the vows, forgetting Mrs. Bastard's name, etc. I can't blame this guy one little bit.

peachesncreem 21

Hopefully you didn't call her Mrs. Bastard when you said your vows Doc.

^ Until right now, it never occurred to me that The Doc's real surname could very well be Bastard. :P I very much doubt it, but you never know, I've heard worse. :p

Let's hope he was never an elementary teacher. "Good morning, Mr. Bastard!" Parents: What, what, WHAT?!

reallytho3 11

I come from a long line of prideful Bastards lol
