At least I'm not the only one! Though I should point out I have perfect teeth- no cavities or any such thing. My hygiene is still just as good as everyone else and there is nothing stanky or nasty about my breath. I'm just absolutely awful at remembering to brush my teeth. Everytime I goto the dentist he always says my teeth are perfect so please don't assume that not brushing your teeth regularly leads to any terrible health risk.
It leads to terrible health risk. Like practically all the time if not all the time. My mom wasn't the best at brushing her teeth when she was younger and her top teeth got so discolored (like blue and yellow, yuck) that she had them removed and she got dentures at 40 years old. She also works for a health insurance company and she told me how this teenage boy had gotten braces, but never brushed his teeth, and his gums got so infected and bloody and raw, and he had so much food in there, he had to have major surgery to remove the braces and try to save his gums and teeth.
Doctors are now finding that failure to brush one's teeth, or even floss, are leading to higher instances of heart disease and other seeming unrelated health problems. Why? Because the bacteria and germs that are not removed from the mouth, and are able to enter the body, affect the body's ability to ward off inflammation. So you might be healthy now (I'm assuming that you are around your 20's or teens, like most FML readers), but everything is interconnected, so brush your goddamn teeth!

That's pretty gross. But smurfaton, that's like my brother. He's got the worst teeth ever (He got grandma's teeth, the poor thing) which would make brushing increasingly difficult, and then I think he eventually just gave up. But he never got cavities or anything, but his breath's smelled a little bad when he breathes in your face. Only now with braces does he brush twice daily. I've always brushed twice daily and have gotten three cavities in my life. Go figure.

Well the more you brush/wash/clean something the more you decrease the natural bacteria your body has that often feed off of the dirt and other crap that you have one you, some people might notice this with hair? Many hair dressers recommend to guys to not wash their hair for 6 weeks and it goes back to normal. Im not entirely sure this works with your teeth, but it also depends on OP's diet as if you eat things high in sugar it allows that bacteria which is bad for your teeth to grow more and thus increase your chance of cavities.

Actually, NOT REALLY! Archeological discoveries strongly suggest that cavemen used salt for cleaning teeth (pretty effective, btw, bonus is a mild whitening effect), this many millennia ago. That with the Middle ages people forgot hygiene is another thing altogether.
It was with the advent of grains heavily introduced in the human diet that tooth problems became rampant.
Uni of York in the UK actually does a small course on dietary evolution and how it affected humans overall.

However, I've taken excellent care of my teeth by going in for preventive treatments which are definately not expensive.

Also, to Tarynkd - actually, going several weeks without washing your hair (especially for guys) is perfectly fine. Our scalps are programmed to over-produce oil because of the amount we wash it, stripping it of its natural oils. Once it realises it doesn't need to over-produce the oil, it stops, and you only need to wash every few weeks. But you do have to go through an initial gross period of your scalp re-adjusting.
It may depend on the length of your hair and the type of hair you have. Just like some people have oily/dry skin, some people's scalps are oilier/dryer than others.
lmao I am a girlfriend to a guy who doesn't brush his teeth too often. Not out of laziness, but because he rushes out in the morning, then comes home and passes out, and just forgets to. I can say, I have no problems with it until it reaches about a week. Then it starts to bug me, and I just push him towards the bathroom and tell him to at least use mouthwash before kissing me lmao.
Seriously. One or two days with out "minty freshness" won't kill you.

As a dental professional, I can tell you honestly, you only have to brush the ones you want to keep. Your dentist only sees you for 5 minutes, and believe me, we know if you're lying or not.
