Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I got the biggest shock in my life when I found out that I was a mistake, and the only reason why I wasn't put up for adoption is because of the tax refunds. FML
Today, I filed my taxes and I normally claim my parents as dependants. My taxes got rejected because my parents filed their taxes without informing me, and they don't have income. They believe if they file taxes, they get $5000 back, per Trump. It ended up costing me over $3,500 extra. FML
Today, I called my parents from out of state to see if they would order me a pizza using their credit card online because I'm out of money. I haven't lived with them for the past year, and they still claim me as a dependent on their taxes. They said no. FML
Today, I found out that they won't hold my stimulus for child support, only to find out that they withheld it to give it to me when I file my taxes. Which child support will take. FML
Today, I finally got the nerve to tell my parents that I'm no longer going to pay them a flat percent of my salary, but only what they need to cover my expenses. Their response: "Better find a place of your own then, you freeloading bastard." FML
Today, my parents have separated. I stayed with them, living at home far too long for my own comfort, just to help them keep it together after they lost their remaining parents. Literally the month after I moved out, they decided it wasn't worth it. I now suspect they stayed together only because I still lived at home. FML
Today, I found out that my parents are 28,000 dollars in debt and that my bank account has $27.17 in it. They took my money to help pay their debt. FML
Today, I found out that I owe the IRS money due to my previous job not taking enough taxes out. I am broke, unemployed, and was counting on a big refund so I could pay for my divorce. FML
Today, I found out my parents' New Year's resolution is to get me to move out. FML
Today, I found out my parents only had me in an attempt to fix their relationship. It didn't work. FML

How is it a free bed to sleep in exactly...soundalike op is saying that the parents want the tax return for themselves...that's not free...that's reimbursement . Lol

You can get a tax break by claiming a child as a dependent.

Hmm, maybe that's why they had you to start with. You can thank your Uncle Sam.

Because the cost of raising a kid is nothing compared to tax benefits, right?

I highly doubt a couple would get $250,000 in benefits over the course of 18 years. That would be to break even.

Just take advantage of it!

If you are old enough to move out they are right. I firmly believe that children who are old enough and circumstanceally (is that a word) able should move out from home and live life on their own. That does not at all mean that I don't want to see them anymore, I'd be happy to have them living down the road and visiting more than weekly, but I want them to leave Hotel Mum&Dad in their mid to late twenties the latest.

I believe the word you were after is circumstantially.

Thank you! English is not my first language and while I'm doing pretty good most of the time sometimes the words get mangled in my head.

I agree to a point. When my kids are 18-20 years old I'll be pushing them to get out of the house, unless, they are going to school. Housing for college or university is expensive so I have no issue letting them stay home. otherwise, life isn't a free ride, and I'm not carrying them through!

I understand you're point, but I don't think you realize what the parents were saying. The parents wanted op to move back home with them and live with his parents, they weren't saying move out. :)
