Today, my wife and I are about to move across the country when the landlord for our new house called and said a water line busted and flooded the house. The movers are coming tomorrow. FML

I'm sorry to hear that happened, but it's better than if all your belongings arrived yesterday.

Damn. Sorry to hear :/

I would recommend putting your belongings in storage until it all gets cleared out, hope thungs get better Op.

At least it busted before your move! If you haven't closed on the house yet the repairs will be out of the sellers pocket, if you have closed, then your warranty should cover it (unless you were cheap and didn't sign one!)

Plot twist the land lord is in love with op and this was there desperate attempt to get them to stay by cutting the water line and flooding everything so they wouldn't move untill it was dealt with

That could happen

Could be worse. This could've happened after you moved.

they say the grass is always greener on the other side, but it all depends on perspective

If it's 24 hours, call and reschedule. But talk about timing for both of you :(

That's not an FML. It would be an FML if the flooding was after your stuff got delivered!

If you already have a signed contract you may be due some penal damages. Contracts are 2 way streets. You agree to pay, he agrees to provide. If he can't provide the housing you've contractually agreed to pay for you may be in a position to have him cover your expenses associated with this inconvenience. (State laws vary, in my home state a contract is valid only after an exchange of money, e.g, placing a deposit on the property.)

That gives them a few days to get it fixed.
