Today, my eldest son told me he wishes he lived with his dad. This after I, two years ago, managed to get myself and my children out of the abusive situation we were in. Why? He didn't want to tidy his toys. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, while driving my kids to school, my son said, "Why don't you find another place to live, so we can just live with daddy?" Then my daughter added, "Yeah, 'cause we LOVE Daddy." FML
Today, my son got in an argument with my boyfriend, packed up his stuff, and moved in with his dad. Not five minutes later I saw my boyfriend doing his stupid happy dance. When angrily confronted, he admitted he orchestrated every argument for months until he got the result he wanted, my son gone. FML
Today, my son confessed to me that the reason he'd rather die single is because my husband and I are so toxic to each other, as we end up arguing over even petty things, yet we still refuse to divorce after 30 years. Therefore, we're to blame for "leaving him traumatized and terrified of marrying". He is 22. FML
Today, my son was crying because he wanted his daddy, and he asked when he can see him. I had no idea what to say, given his dad left us in the middle of the night last year, now lives in another country, and told me he never wants to see us again. FML
Today, in response to the guy whose son told him to fuck off for disturbing his one day off a week, my son spent literally his entire savings account for a deposit on a shitbox one bedroom house because he’s sick of his dad finding him things to do every ten minutes, and I don’t even blame him. FML
Today, my wife and I realized that we made a huge mistake in allowing our son to stay behind and live with my parents when we had to move cross-country due to work. Our lives are so empty without him and we're missing out on watching him grow up, but he refuses to come live with us. FML
Today, I once again told my son he needed a job and a girlfriend because I simply could not keep him in my house anymore. He yelled, "No, I can do whatever I want!" Then went back to playing video games. He's 38. FML
Today, my son had a screaming meltdown because I told him to clean his own room and that I refuse to be treated like his personal maid. He’s 16. FML
Today, I told my son and daughter that their father and I were getting a divorce. They each responded with something like, "Yay! I want to live with Daddy! He buys better presents!" Their father has literally never bought anything for them, one of the many reasons I'm divorcing him. FML
Today, my son asked if there was a way to make parenting easier. I sarcastically told him he could be a deadbeat who sees his kid every two weeks. He must have thought I was serious because he broke up with his girlfriend and baby, turned up at my door expecting to have his old room, and told my wife it was my idea. FML

Hi OP, I lived in a split household, and let me tell you that you are doing nothing wrong. Chances are, if the father has shared custody, he spoils the son, and tries to make him want to live there more. The son probably tells you that he wants to live with the other parent because he knows that's leverage against you. Don't let it get to you, or else he wins

My son is 17. For years I cried myself to sleep when he would tell me that he can't wait for his dad to get custody, he can't wait until he never has to see me again, he hates me etc. It was always because I would discipline while his father would reward.... Right now, he doesn't speak to his father at all, he tells me everyday he loves me, he's graduating early, he does his chores and then some without complaint. I can't believe all we went through, but this is where we ended up. Hang in there, you've got a long road ahead of you, but he'll come around.

I fell you. It's a phase, and it will pass. My 13 year old went through it at one point "I cant6wait till I'm 14 and can tell the judge I want to love with my dad." Eventually he realized his sperm donor is worthless. He now doesn't want to even see his father. I know it hurts, o.p. But what he's going through is normal, and as he gets older he'll see truths and realize which parent really loves him.
