Today, my boyfriend told me he'd drive me to the jeweler's to pick out a ring. We drove there, I picked the ring, and the sales person rang it up. I glanced at my boyfriend, only for him to reply, "Well don't look at me!" FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
How can I put this…?
Today, I went with my girlfriend to the mall. We were looking at jewellery in Zales and she came across the engagement rings. She looks at one and says, "Are you kidding me? That ring is hideous and it's the most expensive one here! Who the fuck would buy that?" Well, that would be me. FML
Today, I was out with my boyfriend, when he started browsing wedding rings. He found a ring, proposed to me right there in front of a crowd, and then was promptly denied a payment plan. We left without a ring. FML
For better, for worse
Today, my boyfriend and I went shopping for an engagement ring. We ended up breaking up in the process. FML
Today, my boyfriend told me he's prepared to commit to marriage, but only if I buy my own ring and tell everyone he surprised me with it. FML
Today, my boyfriend gave me the most beautiful diamond ring I have ever seen. As I excitedly put it on my finger, he told me it wasn't an engagement ring, but I should wear it like one to keep other men away and seem "unapproachable". FML
Empty gesture
Today, my boyfriend bought me an engagement ring. It turned out to be the wrong size and we had to return it, since the store said it couldn't be re-sized. As we headed home, I felt guilty, so I turned to him and apologized. His response? "It's OK honey, I didn't really want to marry you that much anyway." FML
Today, I went to a jeweler's to buy a ring to propose to my girlfriend. When I was at the restaurant, in mid-proposal, with people watching, I realized I had left the ring in the store. FML
So romantic
Today, my boyfriend proposed to me with the prettiest, most simple ring I have ever seen. I called my sister to tell her the good news, and her response was, "I know. He had me steal the ring from Claire's." FML
Classy guy
Today, my boyfriend and I were looking at engagement rings. When the store owner asked about our budget, my boyfriend said with a straight face, "Nothing too expensive, I have a big penis so I don't have to overcompensate by buying a big diamond." FML
Not the one
Today, an ex-boyfriend of mine came to the jewelry store I work at to pick out an engagement ring for his girlfriend. The same guy who just a few months earlier ended our 8-year relationship because I wanted marriage and he didn't. FML

He has a point. Maybe you should look at other boys.

Alright so I'm not sure that you're too keen here with reading comprehension so I'll explain: the boyfriend wasn't embarrassed, he didn't plan on paying for the ring.

the only thing i could think of that would Even remotely justify him is that OP had been constantly nagging her boyfriend that she wanted a ring to the point he got fed up.

Still doesn't justify humiliating her. Nice try, though.

Why are people saying he invited her to the jewellery store? Or that it's an engagement ring? Neither is stated in the post. It says he told her he'd drive her, which sounds just as likely (if not more so) that she wanted to go and he agreed to give her a lift. The second half of that sentence ("to pick out a ring") is ambiguous as to who is picking it but the next sentence says that SHE picked it, not him. It also says A ring, not an engagement ring (engagement and weddings aren't mentioned at all). It sounds like this girl wanted to go ring shopping, her boyfriend agreed to give her a lift, and she wrongly assumed that meant he would buy her a ring. It doesn't say anywhere that he invited her to go or that it was an engagement ring.

He also didn't state that it was for browsing purposes either. Maybe they don't go to the jewelry store offten. I think that would be a reasonable conclusion.

I hate for this to be the boyfriend side. "Yeah Todd my girl lost her favorite ring so i promised to take her to a jeweler so she can get a new one. " Remember we have no clue what precede this only that there is the ring the guy didnt buy and they are a couple. Makes you think

So you asked him to drive you to pick one out and assumed he'd buy it for you? Why? Clearly he's not your fiancé and he's also not a piggy bank, buy your own shit and if you want him to propose and he doesn't find a new guy, don't force things if they shouldn't be

He never said he was going to pay for it, however that would be the gentlemanly thing to do. But in all truth it is a little unfair that you just expect him to fork over 100% of the money, going 50/50 on it would've been the best option in my opinion

Typo, should say ex-boyfriend, yes? :)

It can really ruin a beautiful moment if a boyfriend acts like a dick about a ring. I love my husband dearly, but when we went ring shopping together he kinda threw little tantrums about how none of the rings for men fit him AT ALL and they couldn't size him properly. He has really oddly shaped hands, genetic thing, long story. This happened every time we went looking, for weeks. Although we found a lovely ring for me, it has always tarnished that whole stage of "we're engaged" that he was pouting around jewelry stores through the whole process.

My boyfriend does this all the time, but less extreme. Usually when going out to eat/get food. He'll suggest we go somewhere, and then only after we're there does he mention the fact he assumed I'd pay. Always pisses me off since he's the one who suggested we go, therefor in my mind, should be the one who pays (or at least pays for half).

Why do you keep going places with him?

In all honesty, because I'm an idiot. :)

Engagement rings are a scam. They raise prices making you think that they are rare but they actually have a **** ton of them. I don't see why people still buy the shit.
