Today, I spent my first day with my parents for the first time in a year as I've been away at university. My dad went to work, and my mum spent the whole day playing mahjong with her friends as they all told me "how fat I've gotten" and how "boys won't like it". FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Keeping it real
Today, I went to visit my dad for the first time in over a year, as I have been studying for my Master's degree in history halfway across the world. The first thing he said to me? "So, gotten a real job yet?" FML
Today, I had dinner with my family for the first time in a couple of days. My mum and dad spent the majority of the time arguing whether salt or pepper weighed more. This is why I'm not home often. FML
Today, I had dinner for the first time with my boyfriend's parents. It was awkward enough without his mom asking, "So, what do you do for fun, besides my son?" FML
Toxic people
Today, I went out with my parents and a family friend. After saying goodbye to the friend and as soon as the elevator doors shut, my parents started trash-talking the friend's looks, stature, choice of clothes, etc. Now I understand a lot about my education growing up. FML
Classic Mom moment
Today, I went to my parents' house. I recently lost about 30 lbs. My mom hugged me and said, "Aww, you're not my chubby baby girl anymore." She then said she wished I were still fat because she missed it. She's the reason I lost the weight; she used to tease and taunt me. Thanks Mom. FML
Fake it til you make it
Today, I went out to dinner with my mom and several of her friends. My mom spent the entire night gushing about my Ivy League school and med student boyfriend. I attend a state university and I'm single. She threatened to cut me off if I didn't play along. FML
Today, I went to my dad's house for Christmas. Soon enough, my grandma had commented on how much weight I've gained, my aunt asked me why I'm still single, and my dad joined in by reminding me that I still haven't been accepted into college. Only three more days to go. FML
Today, I told my parents that I was going to hang out with some friends. My dad guffawed and said, "Ooh, look at Mary, pretending she has a social life." Thanks, Dad. FML
Do better
Today, after going to my friend's house for the first time and seeing how their parents treat them, I realized that I’ve never once experienced parental love in my entire life. FML
Bodyshaming ain't cool
Today, I was video chatting with my dad. He handed the phone to his wife, whose first words out of her mouth were, "Why are you getting so skinny?" This was also the same woman whose first words out of her mouth when they came to visit us 3 years ago was how much weight I've gained. FML

I can see your dad having to work as a valuable excuse. However, your mom going hanging out with her friends all day is just plain rude. Sorry OP, hopefully your week gets better :)

I am sorry OP, that really sucks. If it helps, you aren't alone, a lot of other people are treated the same way by parents and told they are fat and they won't be able to get a date. It is horrible. Take care and be good to yourself OP.

Well, what did you expect (about your father at least). Your parents have their own lives to live as well and just because he has to work does in no way reflect his feeling toward you (plus... how else is he going to earn the money to pay for your college and life expenses). As for your mother, her keeping her schedule with her friends is totally normal. You can't expect her to totally drop everything just because you are back for the next few months during summer break. As for her (and her friends insults) -- well that is uncalled for and just plain rude... so you have my sympathies.

If it's the first day in a year for your parents to see you, and this date is known well ahead, it is more than reasonable to expect them to make time for you. That doesn't mean they have to "drop everything" for the whole summer, but if you haven't seen your child in a year, you normally would want to spend a little time with them to hear about the experiences they've had, and just to generally catch up. As for the dad working, that's not unreasonable, but if the mom wasnt working, that behavior is kind of rude and signals that she doesn't really care about her daughter that much. Aside from that, those comments were rude and unnecessary, and the mom shouldn't have tolerated her friends berating her daughter like that.

Leave immediately. You don't have to take their abuse, and maybe, just maybe they will feel some shame.

Awww don't let them get to you. Those kind of people say awful things to make themselves feel better. You just go about your life and make yourself proud. Don't mind them.
