Today, I realised I've been depressed about my recent break up for longer than the relationship even lasted. FML

Op here, first of all, thanks for the support. Mostly. It's not actual depression, just feeling rather miserable about it all, especially as many of my friends are all in happy relationships that I see every day. We dated for just over three months, and I guess the main reason I'm still upset is that she was my first proper girlfriend, first kiss, and at the risk of sounding a bit too pathetic, my first love. To those saying that I should get out and find a hobby, I do. I play the French horn in and out of school, and I'm in the Air Training Corps, which takes up nearly all my free time. The only problem is, she does exactly the same, so I still see her every day and we regularly have camps together, so it's hard to avoid her. Saying that, we are still friends, and the break up was very calm, so there are no hard feeling between us. Anyway, sorry for the long comment, and thanks for getting this posted!

My cheese burger lasted 5 min. My fat lasted 5 months. That's just how things work.

If it has been months, you may want to seek counseling.

Emotional pain lasts longer than happiness.

There's a point in the grieving process when you realise that you're grieving longer than the relationship. I was with someone for 1.5 years, and finally got over her 3 years later (when I discovered the trick of breaking the habit of grieving over her). Follow the 5 D's: - Drink water - Deep breathe - Delay thoughts of it - Distract yourself - Do something else In 23 days you'll break the habit. Works for breakups, smoking, biting nails, etc. it's a psychology trick that's proven many times useful. Exercise regularly and dating others definitely helps too.

This sounds like something you would read off an advice article but good job figuring things out :)

I had help from a psychologist at university. Helped me break the aforementioned habits. Definitely works

Chin up OP :) I know many people tell you this, but there are plenty opportunities to find joy. It dosn't have to be that girl. It could be gaming and such. It may hurt now but it can only get better.
