Today, I learned that lightning and flash flooding are the best motivatiors. I learned this while on a run and 2 miles away from school. FML

Op here! To clarify, I was a cross country practice which meets at the school. We run from there and end there at the weight room. I did end up getting soaked, mostly because we got stuck at a red light. Thanks for the comments!

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.

I'll remember this advice for my next workout, thanks!

17, storms can form in just a few minutes. Especially if the op lives near a large body of water. My boyfriend ran into that at the beach the other day. When he got there, it was mostly blue skies and a few clouds. Little while later, he got drenched by a wall of rain.

Im a little confused by the wording of this, were you going to school or leaving, or were you just jogging between classes? Either way i can imagine something like that would be a pretty great motivator for anyone to get those legs in gear, sounds scary.

To me it sounds like op is in college/university and decided to go on a run. When op referred to the school i think it meant the campus.

When I was in high school we used to do a timed 3 mile run in gym class every month or so. It could be that.

Good point, I hadnt thought of that. Makes sense now :)

Did you wish for losing weight? Maybe you have been heard and someone up there has a good sense of sarcasm

Come on, we need that mile time.

This is so true. When we are on the woods, and it starts to thunder, my pace picks up by a solid 300%

Why does your school have practice during a storm? Safety first, cross country practice isn't worth anyone getting hurt over.

My XC team once did a workout in a field of power lines during a massive thunderstorm. We were all on the ground exhausted after racing up an insanely steep hill when lightning struck right next to us. The things we cross country runners go through!

19, I hope your next exercise was "curl into the tightest little ball you can manage until the thunderstorm passes".

OP mentioned it was a flash flood. Coming from an area where you get those, they can form pretty quickly. Hence the flash bit. Some can form within five minutes

Storms also tend to develop quickly in the mountains. OP's experience mirrors an awful lot of hikes I've been on in the Rockies.

Now you just need to get your school to do that during meets instead of just practice.

Sadly my school stops meets at the slightest rumble. Had to warm up for one race 3 times last year. Stayed loose for 3 hours before racing

Here in New York, we had a storm too. FYL, I hope you didn't get too wet or hurt!

So that's how Olympic athletes train...

The rowing Olympians train by out running brain eating amoebas.

You've got a lot more to come which will make that seem like a good time.
