Today, I learned that, even after several interviews and congratulations for getting the job, you still might not get the job. I just received an email stating that my accepted offer is now rejected. I already treated my close friends to an expensive dinner to celebrate. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, after finally getting a job offer after months of unemployment, I found out that the person who was going to hire me got fired. Which means I'm not getting the job. FML
Today, I received a rejection letter from a job I desperately wanted. Yesterday, the job offer I'd been stalling on in while waiting for news about this one expired. FML
Today, while despairing over having been rejected for my dream job, I received an email asking me to come back in for another interview. Then they called me to say they accidentally sent the email to all the applicants, and that they definitely aren't interested. FML
No dice
Today, I interviewed with a company 5 times over the course of 7 weeks. It was going really well and although not my dream job, it would provide a step up for my family. I got the offer letter at 1 PM! As I’m reading it, I realize it’s actually addressed to the other finalist. Sent to me, not for me. Offer rescinded. FML
Today, I found out I did so horrible during my interview that I didn’t even get a rejection email. FML
Lost references
Today, after three interviews, I accepted an offer for my dream job and submitted my notice. The company called me to say they couldn't contact my referees and have now withdrawn the offer. I'm now officially unemployed. FML
Close but no cigar
Today, after having tried for months to get a promotion at work, I finally had an interview for a higher position. Everything went great, and I was told I would get a call next week for my second interview. I went back to my desk, only to get an email stating they're canceling the position. FML
Nepotism rules
Today, I got notice that I didn't get the new position I applied for at work. After two interviews, pay negotiation and paperwork, as well as years of giving this place all my time, I found out my boss gave it to his friend's daughter, who has no experience or credentials needed for the position. FML
Today, I found out I didn't get accepted into a program I was nominated to attend at work that all other applicants with less experience than myself did. I found out when they asked if I had gotten the acceptance email. They didn't even bother telling me I was rejected. FML
Today, while waiting for an interview at the career that I've been spending months tailoring my résumé for, I was thrown up on by my only competitor. Guess who got the job. FML

You should've waited to celebrate until after your first check. Also it's messed up when companies do that. Sorry about your luck.

Why would they do that? Is that even legal?

It is essentially like the applicant got hired and then immediately fired which follows all states at-will employment statutes if the firing was for cause or economic downturn and not discriminatory reasons. So yes, it is probably legal even if it is professionally unethical.

Wow, that sucks, but next time remember to treat your friends after you get your first paycheck.

Comment moderated for rule-breaking.
Send your close friends an email saying the dinner was actually Dutch Treat and they need to repay you. If your would-be employer could pull that, you ought to give it a try. What do you have to lose?

Sweetheart, I have had this happen too... with my current job. Some corporations send out mass emails to everyone that applied- even to the one hired! You still might be golden! Talk to the person that hired you. Worked for this corporation 3 times, 3 very different positions and this happened every time.

So this corporation hired you three times, and sent youban email each time saying you didn't get the job? Are you sure those emails wete mistakes?

Since it was an email, it might be an error. Try to call the hiring manager or HR or whomever and ask about it. Those emails are automated and get sent out by mistake sometimes. Source: My job is to help others get jobs.
